A heat advisory is in effect for San Diego coastal areas until Saturday, 10/17 at 8 p.m.!🌡️

Stay hydrated, limit outdoor activity during peak heat, and check on neighbors or older adults who may need help.

Need a place to cool down? Select libraries and recreation centers will be open for people who need to take a break from the heat: sandiego.gov/PlacesToCoolDown (Link in Bio). Please check for open locations and hours.

A high wind warning has also been issued for inland, mountain and foothill areas in San Diego County. Hot, dry and windy conditions often overlap with Red Flag warnings, increasing the risk of fast‑moving wildfires. Our teams are fully staffed to quickly respond to wildfires.

The Sports Arena site is one step closer to transformation! The City Council’s Land Use & Housing Committee gave the green light to move the Midway Rising redevelopment forward to the full City Council.

If approved, Midway Rising would be the largest affordable housing project in California history, bringing opportunities for affordable housing, thousands of jobs and new amenities to our community. What's included in the project plans? Click our Link in Bio.

My full statement on the Land Use and Housing Committee's unanimous decision to advance Midway Rising can be found here:

“Today's unanimous vote reflects the significant progress we've made in advancing one of the most ambitious redevelopment opportunities in San Diego's history.

From the beginning, my administration has worked to bring together the right partners, negotiate a responsible development framework and move this project toward reality. That work has required collaboration among City staff, the development team, community stakeholders and our partners in Sacramento.

I'm proud of the progress we've made and grateful to the committee for its support. We now look forward to bringing this proposal before the full City Council and continuing the work necessary to deliver thousands of homes, new public amenities and a modern entertainment center for San Diego.

Congratulations to Carlsbad Councilmember Teresa Acosta on her election as President of @calcities!

Teresa brings years of public service and a commitment to strengthening California’s cities. As the first Latina to lead Cal Cities, she’s also making history.

I look forward to working with her to advance solutions that will help our cities deliver for the people we serve.

Delivering better City services starts with strong leadership.

Today, I announced my appointment of Bethany Bezak as San Diego’s next Chief Operating Officer, pending City Council confirmation.

Over the past year, we’ve made significant progress strengthening our City’s finances and improving accountability. Bethany is the right leader to build on that progress.

She knows our City, respects the employees who keep it running, and has a proven track record of getting things done — from fixing streets to improving the services San Diegans rely on every day.

I look forward to working with Bethany to continue delivering for San Diego.

Calling all Balboa Park lovers! 💗 We want your input to help shape the park’s future.

We’re launching the first comprehensive update to the Balboa Park Master Plan since 1989, and community feedback is a key part of the process. Take the initial survey and let us know your thoughts on how the park should grow, connect to neighborhoods and best serve everyone who enjoys it.

The Master Plan update will help the City prioritize critical infrastructure improvements, preserve the park’s historic and cultural assets and explore sustainable funding strategies to support its long-term needs. This survey is just the beginning of the community engagement process – there will be many more opportunities to share your ideas and help shape the future of Balboa Park.

Learn more about the update and take the survey with our Link in Bio.

San Diegans have waited decades to see the Sports Arena site reach its full potential. It’s time to move forward.

This week, the Land Use and Housing Committee will consider the next steps for Midway Rising - a proposed transformation that would bring 4,250 new homes, including at least 2,000 affordable homes, a modern sports and entertainment arena, new parks, and jobs to the Midway District.

This is an opportunity to deliver much-needed housing and a new future for one of San Diego’s most important sites.

After decades of talking about it, it’s time to move Midway forward.

⚓ Happy 251st Birthday to the United States Navy!

Since 1775, generations of Sailors have answered our nation’s call with courage, dedication, and service.

Here in San Diego, the Navy is part of who we are. Sailors and their families are our neighbors, friends, and an important part of our community.

To every Sailor, veteran, and Navy family: Thank you for your service and sacrifice. San Diego is proud to stand with you, during your service and long after.

Happy Birthday, @usnavy! 🇺🇸

We're helping more people get off the street, into shelter and programs to end their homelessness. A new report shows that shelter capacity and resources have nearly doubled since 2019.

Supportive housing units, emergency shelter beds, Safe Sleeping sites and Safe Parking resources have grown from 5,924 total resources in 2019 to 11,572 in 2026.

The Community Action Plan on Homelessness outlines the resources needed to fully address homelessness in the region, and it's built around six primary interventions: prevention, diversion, emergency shelter, rapid rehousing, low-income housing and supportive housing.

The report to City Council also highlighted the importance of prevention and diversion programs, which help people avoid entering the homelessness system. Approximately 4,700 individuals would need to be served annually through these programs to significantly reduce inflow into emergency shelters. Current resources, however, are sufficient to serve about 1,613 individuals each year.

Despite ongoing budget challenges, the City continues to expand shelter capacity. Learn more at the link in bio.

Our Canadian roots are showing!

(W)right On Communications was honored to co-host a welcome reception for Canada's new Consul General in Los Angeles, @kamalkheralib. Thank you to our cohosts: maplesocal and Canada's Consulate General in Los Angeles.

San Diego's @mayortoddgloria became the first U.S. mayor to welcome Consul General Khera to her post in-person. We see that as a sign of more good things to come between Canada and San Diego! Agree, @canadians_in_sandiego ?

🍁 DID YOU KNOW? As the San Diego border region’s third largest foreign direct investor after only the UK and Japan, Canada supports 8,949 jobs and $881 million in wages, particularly in the manufacturing, professional services and retail trade sectors. taken in (W)right On Communications by @mayortoddgloria
