Because of a foot race the Alma tunnel was closed to cars today and we walked through and saw the memorial at the spot where Princess Diana died.
R.I.P. 30 years ago next August. by @mbmoore

I was saying to Jackie today that if this protest movement against oligarchy and inequality becomes global, it’s interesting to think that we will have lived through where it started. (Or at least one of the places it started.)
Having recently been to Versailles, it does give you an historical perspective on where wealth and power imbalances ultimately lead. by @mbmoore

A side-trip today to Père Lachaise Cemetery. Call me weird, but I like visiting cemeteries. They make me think a bit about the time I have left and am I using it well.

Since IG deleted my last reel I guess I’ll stick with some photos of my walk home from dinner with Jackie. #parismaville by @mbmoore

Here’s a preview of the first in a new series of designs inspired by mid-century lingerie and the hours of night.

Vespera is the embodiment of twilight, when moths take wing and the last light of day lingers pink and gold on the horizon.

Hand embroidered moths rise from vaulted arches, swirling across a ground of peach silk duchess satin and leaving flight trails of black spinels in their wake. Black flossing and spiral quilted cups add more structural contrast to the naturalistic whimsy of the moths’ meandering flight.

It was an absolute pleasure to work with the incredible @theredbomb_model and @mbmoore again for this shoot! by @mbmoore

Jackie and I decided to explore a bit after the demonstrations - down some of the more exclusive/expensive shopping streets. The vibe was definitely tense. Some broken glass was still visible, but a lot was covered up. Here are some things we saw along the way.

An ad sign on rue Saint-Honoré

What windows that were intact were covered with additional protective mesh or plexiglass. Almost all the luxury stores had security guards prominently placed at the door.

Avenue Montaigne seemed like a fortress, but mostly intact.

But it definitely felt creepy

Graffiti was everywhere. This is the Place de la Concorde. (Formerly Place de la Révolution - where the guillotine stood.)

Graffiti was everywhere

A burned kiosk on the Champs-Elysées, near the Grand Palais.

Meanwhile interesting people were out and about

Parisians will be Parisians

Amidst all the chaos and tension, Art Basel is going on, selling high-end art to wealthy collectors, which seems pretty tone-deaf given the emotions are running high about inequality.

Art Basel piece in front of the Grand Palais. It seemed either hopeful or clueless. I couldn’t really decide.

Not sure the point of burning the trees on Rue Rivoli.

Full employment for glaziers and workmen these past few days.

Apparently eBikes when burned get incredibly hot. by @mbmoore

Today on the Champs Elysées - at first glance things seemed pretty normal - lots of people out - but then looking closer, broken windows, graffiti, and a convoy of cops. by @mbmoore

Jackie and I did a little trip up to Rouen in Normandy. It’s famous for Monet’s paintings of the Cathedral and also as the location in 1431 of the trial and execution of Joan of Arc. A terrible story of deceit and injustice. But the city is lovely with a lot of the medieval buildings and streets preserved. Ot was a nice way to spend a couple of days before Jackie’s birthday ❤️❤️❤️

Taking the train back to Paris with @jackiepurl by @mbmoore

So Jackie and I voted from Paris yesterday, mailed our ballots back to California. I feel like this is going to be a strange election for all Americans, what with disinformation, and threats of violence, intimidation and meddling. Being thousands of miles away makes it seem even more unreal, but I’m glad @jackiepurl and I were able to make our voices heard. I hope the current protests in France will serve as inspiration to US citizens, should their voices be ignored or thwarted. #epluribusunum #liberteegalitefraternite #vote #votebymail by @mbmoore

I went with Jackie to the @textile_tours_of_paris Tender Whispers From the Heart workshop at @auverasoie_officiel today. I obviously know nothing about embroidery (and had to be patiently taught that embroidery and needlepoint are different things entirely) but Rebecca is charming and the space is beautiful and not generally open to the public, so why not? I did my best to be a fly on the wall and appreciated the discussion not normally open to a man.
