Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened.

Last week @mcr_bcn opened (and closed) at @openbcnstudios during La Mercè in Barcelona. A year-long labour of love showcasing design, art & creativity from emerging and established talent in Manchester and Barcelona.

Nearly 400 people came through the door on 25 Sept to explore, connect & experience the work. I’m so grateful to Marketing Manchester for trusting me with this.

It was a pleasure to welcome @cllrbevcraig and to join a Q&A with @gg_________ (@adgfad), @lew.pearce.art & @de.blanc

Huge thanks to @marcmarti_impresion for their patient support & exhibition printing, @ben__inmotion (@gfsmithpapers) for paper, @foilcoltd for foil, and @teamimpression_ for the promo materials 🙌

And of course, endless thanks to the artists who created such unique work, without you it would have been just an empty room! Too many of you to tag!

Next stop? We hope to bring MCRBCN to Manchester & also explore the MCR(XXX) concept with other cities worldwide. Please get in touch if that sounds like you 👀

See all the artists + work here: mcrbcn.com 👈🏻

Finally, if you came along last week, let me know what you thought... taken in openbcn studios by @mcr_bcn

I forgot to include @whoddat_ - Completely my fault! 👀 Leticia Souza, who goes by the artistic name whoddat, is a heteronym born from her research and shaped by the aesthetics of internet and technology culture. Her work blends graphic design principles with digital composition, pushing each tool and software to its creative limits—refusing to be confined by boundaries. Based in Barcelona, whoddat works with MARGEM, a Brazilian design studio. Her creative practice spans parties, music industry projects, and intricate visual compositions, offering a fresh perspective on the process and possibilities of digital graphic creation. by @mcr_bcn

👀 SOME EXCITING NEWS! 👀

We now have a 21st cube created by @arnau_gracia and instead of pairing with an emerging Manchester creative I am delighted to say that the excellent @helenmusselwhite will be partnering on this particular cube.

Helen studied graphic design and illustration and has worked in the creative world ever since.
Always on a creative quest, 18 years ago she found her ultimate medium and her love affair with
paper began.

Working with various paper types Helen cuts, folds, scores and layers to create intriguing and
intricate artwork with an emphasis on process and craft.

She lives and works on the edge of south Manchester with one foot in suburbia and the other in
the Cheshire countryside. by @mcr_bcn

⭐️ Had a few messages wondering about the event ⭐️

It’s entirely FREE to attend. If you’d like to come and see the exhibition it’s open for one day only on September 25th and from 1pm until 4pm anyone can drop in and take a look around.

If you are interested in coming to the private event in the evening (5:30pm onwards), which will feature drinks, food and a few (very short) talks about the project, then you need to register.

You can show interest in coming via the link on the website. We will let you know if there’s spaces available to come to the evening event as soon as possible.

Message me with any questions.

My name is Leonie and I’m an illustrator and animator based in the Manchester area. My work displays a need to combine analogue and digital materials, using print, drawing and digital programmes to create short, risograph animations. I work within these mediums to produce moving images that bring patterns and colours to life, taking my drawing off the sketchbook page and computer screen and into projection, where they can be used as visuals for live music and more. My practice draws inspiration from the bright colours and bold shapes of 60s psychedelia, often looking into how to best include the fluorescent colours the risograph machine boasts. by @mcr_bcn

Lucy Evans is a Welsh mixed-media artist. Her practice is centred around exploring themes of love, vulnerability, and community to better understand how language can serve as a form of resistance. Embracing DIY culture, she experiments with zines, collage, photography, and raw, unfiltered text to express personal and collective experiences. Drawing on her working-class and neurodivergent identity, Lucy investigates the emotional and political weight of rituals, gendered performance, and shame, adopting a tactile approach to image making in order to reframe everyday materials and moments into acts of care, confrontation, and connection. by @mcr_bcn
