👀 MCRBCN - Manchester and Barcelona design exhibition - one day only 25.09.25 👀 Brought to you by @studiodbd 👀

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

“May you travel far and wide, and ultimately return to yourself.”

September marks my fourth year in this foreign city, and somehow, it’s beginning to feel oddly at home.

Last year, during @mcr_bcn’s open call for “A Love Letter To Your City,” I revisited all the places that hold cherished memories of the people I have met here and spent time with.

It seems that all rivers of life cross paths in Barcelona. And I am grateful to have shared part of that journey with you.

See you in life.

✌🏽🚀

Thanks @anniesgraphics_ for sharing your thoughts and feelings during the process. Great work! 💙 and thanks @studiodbd for the trust and putting everything together, was a show to remember 🌊

My proposal for MCRBCN was My visual love letter to Barcelona. It combines flowers and 19th-century tableware generated with AI. The flowers symbolize the city’s diversity and artistic spirit, while the tableware evokes tradition. Through AI, I reinterpret these elements, creating a dialogue between innovation and cultural heritage.

I am very grateful to have been part of this. Thank you @studiodbd for making me part of @mcr_bcn

És una oportunitat única de veure com les noves veus interpreten la cultura, el lloc i la identitat a través del disseny.

Visita l'exposició a l'Espai Blanc de la seu de Llotja a Sant Gervasi fins al 18 de novembre.

Earlier this year, 2024 graduate Fred Williamson @freds.design was selected to take part in @mcr_bcn a design exhibition uniting Manchester and Barcelona’s creative communities ✨

Initiated and curated by @studiodbd, the project brings together 40 emerging designers, 20 from each city, paired to collaborate on large-format cubes. Each side became a visual love letter to the cities they call home.

The exhibition first opened in September at @openbcnstudios during La Mercè, Barcelona’s largest cultural festival 🇪🇸

The exhibition is now open at a new venue, @escolallotja in their exhibition room — Espai Blanc until 18 November 🗓️

Congratulations to @freds.design and to all the emerging creatives involved in this international collaboration.

We look forward to seeing it come to Manchester 👀

I went to Barcelona on the 25th September to go and see the @mcr_bcn exhibition at @openbcnstudios ! My work above was featured, in collaboration with the lovely @de.blanc ⭐️

It was a womderful project to be a apart of so thank you to everyone who was involved, and thank you to @studiodbd for arranging everyone and everything ⭐️

Mine and Blanca's work was presented as postage stamps, showing our designs as letters to each other that showed off what we liked about our cities.

Mine, of course, looked into the patterns found within the architecture of Manchester (with a cheeky peak district stone pattern thrown in as well), arranged into a bouquet for Barcelona !

I printed both mine and Blanca's designs on the risograph machine and Blanca then arranged the text and post stamp design.

I met lots of lovely people at the exhibition, a wonderful experience tied into a Barcelona holiday x

So nice to meet you Holly 🌸

Grateful to have been part of MECR-BCN during the Festes de la Mercè in Barcelona — such an inspiring experience to share my work alongside so many talented creators.

Huge thanks to Dave Sedgwick from DBD Studios and the entire organization for the invitation and for making this possible. Feeling truly honored to see my art finding new spaces and dialogues in such a vibrant city. 💛

This work brings together two foundational references for Barcelona: Antoni Gaudí’s
architecture and the imagery of the La Mercè festival.

Gaudí was chosen not only for his weight in the city’s cultural identity but also for the way his legacy offers a framework of creation that goes beyond style, shaping a distinct way of thinking.

From La Mercè comes the tradition of
giants, biblical figures, and crowned kings and queens, as well as the more subtle presence of
els castellers, which, though not explicitly visible, informed the process and structure of the piece.

The composition was generated through three different AI models, each contributing a specific layer of meaning. One model was trained on Gaudí-inspired buildings, another on ceramics and decorative elements documented through my own photographs, and a third on aerial views of
the castellers.

The dense formations of these human towers, with their colorful shirts and compressed geometries, produced abstract patterns that merge mosaic and pointillism.

Together, these elements articulate a vision of Barcelona where architecture, festival, and
collective memory are interwoven into a single contemporary im
