Hey y’all!👋🏿 In collaboration with @frontporchalliance_kc and @ppgreatplains I’ll be leading a breakout session titled “Sexual Healing Circle”, with sexual trauma, shame, and self-love as its focus. The event, “For Everybody: Sexual & Reproductive Health Care Symposium” is free & inclusive, with food and childcare provided. I was on an evening stroll with my bro @tapia.isaac and he suggested we detour from our path and check out a park that's very special to him. He shared memories with me of the park that were so detailed, so vivid, he seemed to disappear in the recollection of them; inhabiting the past and the present simultaneously. One such memory was of him walking in the park and feeling exhilarated that he couldn't detect any english being spoken, but hearing diverse languages from many countries.
I must say as I came upon the park, I was completely breathtaken. I saw masses of Black and Brown beautiful humans, children, and adults, from all over the world, playing together. It was a particularly enchanting moment, supported by a setting sun that permeated the entirety of the scene in a magnificent, golden glow. Time seemed to stand still. Everything felt new. I was overwhelmed at the beauty of it all. Continuing our journey, we happened to cross some kids sliding downhill. Immediately, I wanted to join in the fun with the kids sliding down the hill, but my next thought was I'm too grown to act so childish, so I kept on walking. Something deep down, probably a growing self-love, urged me to go back and slide. So I did! I anxiously grabbed a piece of cardboard and made my way to the top of the hill. As I descended into joy, I found myself reliving playground memories, disappearing into my recollection of them; inhabiting the past and present simultaneously.

My favorite part was the high five at the end.

Hey fam! For the 2nd consecutive season I have a fun and adventurous tomato jam that I’m offering to #KansasCity. I enjoy building community, and this season’s tomato varieties come from @breadandrosesfarm @pocket_chocolatekc. I also use a local honey, which comes from @marciesbackyardhoney. I recommend supporting them each individually because they offer great products.

I love to expand awareness through food and have that joyous a-ha moment! This jam is great for charcuterie boards, cheeseburgers, and any type of bread n’ butter action! My favorite way is slathered on a fried chicken sandwich.🤤🫠 It’s also great as a meat glaze.👌🏿🤫

#throwbackthursday to May happenings🤗

1-3: Spring Fling! My organization, @thereflectioncollective partnered with @manheimgardens to deliver one hell of a farm-to-table experience. So many community members came together to feed a total of 200 people!!! All key ingredients came straight from their garden. The meal: wine cap mushroom ragu, red dead nettle pesto, and a garden salad with a brown sugar lemon vinaigrette.

4-5: Stacy Lake silent auction! Thank you @thestacylake for choosing me, @chefaqui to cater a campaigning event for you held at the @theblakkco 🙏🏿 I fed an awesome crowd of approximately 50 ppl. The finger foods consisted of a cucumber coulis, pea & shredded carrot salad atop an herbed focaccia crouton, house-made tortilla chips(seasoned w/ garlic n’ crushed red pepper) with grilled tomato salsa, and hickory smoked pulled chicken sliders(marinated in white sauce) with charred jalapeño mayo, house-made pickles, on top of a pretzel bun…🤤
