This morning’s harvest includes tomatoes, tomatillos, hot peppers, lemon cucumbers, squash, eggplant, blackberries, and plums.

The kind of wrinkly pepper the top is some kind of chili pepper from Tunisia. Evil Himalayan blackberries are invasive and they are growing with wild abandon over into my yard; my neighbor won’t control them. I’m going to collect as many berries as I can - because I’ll take the wins where I can get them - and then cut the canes back to the property line. Plums hang over from the other neighbor’s yard. I’ve been watering the tree and shaking off the weaker sacrifice plums all summer on my side and hope to get enough plums for jam this year.

My lovage plant flowered big time this year (not pictured) and I want to save the seeds for future plantings and for the neighborhood seed library.

Scenes from my vegetable garden on July 1. A bunch of tomato plants, some peppers, cucumbers, tomatillos, and even tiny Charentais melons (pic 4). This is the farthest I’ve gotten with this plant; mostly the wildlife dines on the young start in May. I’ve also got one huge yellow crookneck squash plant.
