A table for one, please.

There is something beautifully intimate about dining alone.

No conversation to disappear into. No one else’s plate to taste. No deciding together what comes next. Just you, the room around you, and whatever happens when you turn your attention inward for a little while.

We loved that Meg Cotner of Bridgetown Bites chose to spend an evening with us this way. Even more, we loved her honesty about the experience: the awkwardness that can come with dining alone, the decision to become curious about it, and ultimately, the pleasure she found on the other side.

Because a table for one should never feel like less of an occasion.

We want you in the pretty seat. We want to pour the little welcome drink. We want you to linger over the menu, order one deviled egg simply because you can, and feel every bit as cared for as the table celebrating something beside you.

Thank you, Meg, for trusting us with your evening, and for writing about it so beautifully.

Here’s to taking yourself to dinner. 💋

I'm sorry to tell y'all this, but #Costco didn't win!

Last month, we assembled a team of expert judges (food journalists Ben Coleman, @krosuna, @megcotner, @girlwilltravel_, and me!) and rounded up 9 rotisserie chickens from 8 #Portland-area grocery chains. The goal? Find which stores make rotisserie chickens worth buying, and which you should avoid at all costs. The restuls were fascinating!

See the full ranking and breakdown at www.stumptownsavings.com.

Now I want to know: What's your favorite rotisserie chicken, and how do you like to use it? Let me know in the comments below.

In early July, @fooditka and I went to the Willamette Valley wine country to check out some salads in Dundee, Newberg, and Carlton. It was a great time out of Portland in some gorgeous country. We stopped at @redhillsmarket @merenda.deli @woodenheartkitchen @blindpig_x_renegade @allisoninnspa - all terrific places for salad.

See what we discovered when it came to salads in this beautiful part of Oregon.

Yesterday we shared some salad recipes with you for Salad Week. Some are from local restaurants, there’s a vegan Caesar dressing recipe, and even a salad recipe from your editor herself. I developed it back in 2011 and having made it Monday, I can attest that it’s pretty darn tasty.
