Hi, I’m Anu, the artist behind MercyWerks Studios.

I create mixed-media paintings exploring identity, faith, nature, philosophy, psychology, and the human experience.

Every piece begins with a question and becomes an invitation for reflection.

I believe art can help us understand ourselves, our stories, and each other a little better.

Thank you for being here and becoming part of this journey. by @mercywerksstudios

Hi, I’m Anu. Welcome to my studio!

I create mixed-media artwork exploring identity, faith, nature, psychology, philosophy, and the shared human experience.

Every painting begins with a question:

What lies beneath the surface?

Here you’ll find:
✨ Original paintings
✨ Fine art prints
✨ Behind-the-scenes process
✨ Stories about becoming, healing, and resilience
✨ Reflections on what it means to be human

My hope is that my work helps people feel seen, rooted, valued, and reminded that beauty can exist even in life’s most complicated seasons.

I’m so glad you’re here.

Six years ago, when @kobebryant 🪽 and sweet Gigi 🪽 changed address. I started this painting.

Then… I stopped.

I couldn’t figure out how to finish it. I kept chasing the spark that made me start in the first place, but it never came. Eventually I set it aside and convinced myself I should paint something else.

But the truth is, while six years have passed for the rest of us, this is still Vanessa and the family’s reality. Grief doesn’t follow our timelines.

A little bit ago I asked you all in my stories whether I should come back to this piece, and you overwhelmingly said yes.

Now I have a daughter of my own.

Becoming a mother changed the way I see this painting. It gave me the perspective and the emotion I didn’t have six years ago. I finally found the spark I was looking for.

Number 4 in this unfinished series.

Let’s do this!

The phone does this painting absolutely no justice. 😂

This is one of the reasons I love exhibiting my work in person. Not just because I hope someone takes it home, but because it creates space for conversation.

One of my favorite parts of an art show is hearing people’s perspectives, watching their reactions, and seeing the conversations unfold between complete strangers. Every person brings a different life experience to the work, and that’s what makes it so meaningful.

Art doesn’t always have to give answers. Sometimes its greatest purpose is to ask better questions.

I’d love to hear your thoughts. Do you have ancestry that traces back? Did you learn something new?

What sticks out to you in the painting?

What do you get from this painting? What would you name it?

When I first started this piece, she looked a little too much like a certain celebrity, so I scrapped it and started over.

The second attempt was beautiful.

But beautiful wasn’t enough.

It wasn’t carrying the weight of the story I wanted to tell. It didn’t have the tension I look for in my work.

So I trusted the process… even when it looked a little crazy.

This time, though…

I think I got it.

Part 3 is next.

Some things have to be dismantled before they can become.

This painting isn’t telling what I want. It’s time to switch it up.

Stay with me. This story isn’t over.

Sometimes collecting art from original artists can feel out of reach, especially when the work was created on large canvases or panels.

At the same time, not everyone wants a mass-produced print that may fade or lose its vibrancy over time.

That’s why I created these mini fine art prints. Available in 4x4, 5x7, and 6x6 sizes, they’re an affordable way to start collecting original artwork and bring meaningful pieces into your home.

Whether you’re building a gallery wall, adding a little personality to a bookshelf, searching for a thoughtful gift, into interior design, or simply in a season where you’re being more intentional with spending, these small prints make it possible to enjoy art without a major investment.

Because everyone deserves to live with beautiful things.

Title: Planted

For the ones still standing.
Still growing.
Still becoming.

Planted is finally finished.

This painting has been with me for years, and now that it’s complete, I can see why it needed time.

It speaks to being rooted when life gets loud. When the waters rise. When everything around you feels like it’s trying to shift your place, your peace, or your sense of self.

There’s also a feeling of harvest in this piece. The kind that comes after hidden growth. The kind that reminds you something can be forming underneath the surface long before anyone else sees it.

And the cherry blossoms were added with intention. They’re so beautiful, but they don’t last long. That felt important to include because some beautiful things are fleeting, and that doesn’t make them less valuable. Sometimes it makes them more sacred.

What keeps you rooted when life tries to displace you?

As always, thanks for your comments and inputs!!

There are a lot of insights that I appreciated. I’m highlighting the one that I thought was particularly unique!

even though it’s not showing the completion of the painting feel free to go on my last post and give your input on what you would either name the painting or the interpretation that you received from it!

Title: Scarcity

Sometimes the hardest thing to release isn’t the person, the place, or the thing itself.

It’s who we believed we were with it.

The version of us that felt chosen.
Needed.
Safe.
Valuable.

And when it’s time to let go, fear starts talking loud.

“What if you never find this again?”
“What if starting over is too hard?”
“What if this was the best you could have?”

But scarcity lies.

It tells us that our worth is attached to what we can keep.
It tells us that releasing something means losing ourselves.
It tells us that beginning again is failure, when sometimes beginning again is mercy.

This piece is about the grip.
The ache of opening your hand when everything in you wants to close it.

But maybe letting go isn’t proof that you lost.

Maybe it’s proof that you’re finally trusting there’s more life on the other side of what you were afraid to release.
