Our nearly 10 year old baby is getting her teeth pulled today and we are so nervous. Tootie isn’t scared but she is pretty vain and is worried how this will affect her jawline profile. She also will miss chewing, that’s been a favorite.

To make her feel more confident, please comment a compliment to her and I will read it out loud to her. taken in Midtown, Memphis, Tennessee by @micahwinter

She’s smart as a whip, very curious, has deep desire to please, and the need to murder wild animals. She’s my dwahtah!!! Oma was looking for a new home after murdering 10 chicken on the farm she was living at. THATTAGIRL!!! Thank you to her last family for choosing us. Thanks to @utopia_animal_hospital for all that they do. And thank you to @oooray01 for saying yes🥲 taken in Rocky Woods Estates, Cordova by @micahwinter

So many people followed my adoption of Roscoe in 2019, I thought you all deserve to see how it ended. I adopted Roscoe when I was in an emotional tailspin. I was feeling really low and found a dog that was 7 years old and “unadoptable” and was nearing the end of his allotted time at the shelter. I went to meet him twice because I was so unsure and each time he peed on me and showed me no love🤣 He was malnourished, heart worm positive, and had a double ear infection. We both seemed to be in transition that year, and I took a leap so we could make that transition together. He had deep traumas that would often result in fights with other dogs and bites for humans. He was aggressive and then sweet like a sour patch kid, always staring at you with apologetic eyes. His eyes were his super power.
Today, after 7 years living with @oooray01 and I, he crossed the rainbow bridge, lashing out at the vet and vet tech until the last minute. He was a fighter for sure.
I’m proud of myself for making it here to be honest and simultaneously embarrassed I couldn’t solve more of his problems before it was too late.

These pictures of me holding him and petting him were before it got bad enough that we had to stop doing such things with him. He doubled his weight from 2019 and you can see his fat joy in more recent photos. So many lessons I’ve learned. ♥️
Special thank you to Utopia Animal Hospital, truly the best people I’ve ever met. And to @oooray01 who took on so much of the burden that these later years had in store, often with a smile and some baby talk. taken in Memphis, Tennessee by @micahwinter

Our fourth anniversary was last week and we spent it in some national parks. The trip was filled with Casefile murder podcasts, Olivia Rodrigo’s latest album, and (as always) the pursuit of coffee.
On this, our fourth trip around, I am again ruminating on the idea of impermanence. Everything about marriage is organic and changing. We grow older, our bodies change, our ideas about the world push into different avenues, and if we are lucky we find someone who is willing to trust that process, to partake in it with you. Coffee cups near parks are often compostable and one we got near the Tetons said “Here for now, not forever.” National Parks, not just here but around the globe, often push the idea of renewability, regrowth, and the impermanence of space. The river I see isn’t the river Teddy Roosevelt saw or even the river the person yesterday saw. We don’t get to keep it. The Jeremy I met sevenish years ago is only accessible to me through a flawed memory. What I have every morning is this new Jeremy to learn, care for, and admire. Everyday takes care and understanding in order to navigate what is new, to make space for regrowth. Marriage is the evolution of two people as separate yet complimentary individuals whom agree to renew their pursuit of understanding for one another on a daily, at times moment by moment, basis. We are both lucky to have a partner in this world who wants to get to know us, to perceive us with the urgency of someone who realizes our mortality. And,to be seen in this way, as someone deserving of expansion and variation, that’s love.
