"The Egg in the Aqua" 🥚🤍🩵💚💙🧡

Food Art Project January Challenge - (sorry, long caption ahead ⚠️)

Since the #FoodArtBlankCanvasProject is about our personal connection to color, I felt very compelled to go with an extremely vibrant and daring palette 🎨 as opposed my usual comfort zone in a more muted esthetic. You might argue that the color I chose is not the color of the food that I made my hero, but for my deep love of orange egg yolks, I decided to go almost monochrome on everything surrounding it. This is sure to complement it and make it shine!

Eggs and soldiers are the earliest memory of eating with my Grandmother when I was a child. But the toast was often burnt and never buttered. 😅 Today I make my own soft Shokupan loaf using my starter #Babymanus - son/daughter of Longimanus from my bread Yoda @diverbaker (you can see some of his amazing bread in the background of some shots, too) - because I like to cut my soldiers thick and butter them even thicker. 🤤😋

When I first explored the aquatic color palette, I had started with a study on the Sherwin Williams Meadowbrook color. What exactly is it? A turquoise? A teal? An aquarium? Or a combination of all of the above? This eventually lead me to Sherwin Williams Aqua! Which I knew whispered something to me the moment I laid my eyes on it. 🩵💚💙

Recreating the set of my Blue Breakfast almost 15 months after the first shoot, was quite intense and a bit nerve-wracking. Will I be able to make a seamless and cohesive photo and video set out of the old and the new footage? Will they look similar? Can I relight it the same way I did so long ago? Will I achieve the same color output to complete my photo, carousel and Reel trio for this challenge? These were all questions that kept me up all night.

So... Sorry for the long caption and let me know what YOU think :)

Thank you @queen_of_embroidery_eg for the custom-made Sashiko art pieces.

PS: Remember never to put a hot cast iron skillet on a wooden cutting board guys! 😁😅🙈

10 Years of Mido Eats - The Story.

Looking back and reflecting on all the ups, the downs and the learnings... The PEOPLE, above all! 🫂
So blessed, grateful and honored to have gone through this journey with each and every one of you. 🙏🏽

I have worked incredibly hard on this one, trying to unearth footage going back to my childhood! While also having it make sense and giving it purpose in the story. 😅

PS: Please, don't be mad if you don't find yourself in this video. It is by no means a measure of how important you have been and still are to me. The reason you may have not made the final cut, could be as silly as the fact that I couldn't find a good photo or video of us to put in.

Belgian Liege Waffles Three-way for
Food Art Project January Challenge

I am not entirely sure that this kind of surrealism of levitating food is still trendy or even allowed for this challenge, but at the time I was shooting this I was so excited and couldn't stop thinking about the final composite and how I would bring everything together! And I believe that that's what's matters.

This project is pretty special to me because it was my very first time shooting in Hungary 🇭🇺 I have prepared a huge documentation and behind the scenes footage from how I had nothing in my Budapest home, to putting together a micro studio for my shoots. (Much more on that later) But first let me tell you about how incredibly divine liege waffles are. Unlike the common German waffles, which use a runny cake batter, liege waffles use a yeasted, sweet bread dough. It's just like difference between cake donuts and "real" doughnuts, as I like to call them. Sorry Dunkin!

These waffles offer an incredibly pleasant chewy nom nom mouthfeel that you will never forget once you've tried them. I hope to share a recipe with you all soon!

Continuing my aqua theme for #FoodArtBlankCanvasProject I went out on a three day spree to buy all the aqua colored props I could find. But ordering the aqua colored waffle maker from abroad was a totally different hassle to deal with. 😅
I'm glad with the end result and I hope you are, too!

Do you believe in ghosts? Okay, but do you believe in crêpe ghosts?! 👻
When I was a little boy, my mom used to play a spooky game with me called "Boo Bekh". She would hide her face behind the palms of her hands and say "booo", then she would suddenly swing both hands open, like two swinging window panes revealing her face and say "Bekh!" to frighten me.

I finally managed to bring to you all my Halloween 2026 project: a black vanilla cake, oozing with pools of green pastry cream, topped with cake pop crêpe ghosts.
I started working on this about a week ago, when I went out to buy a large, white piece of satin cloth, which I turned into a ghost costume by hand-sowing black mesh behind the eye holes. Fun! My mom helped me out a little bit, as she is the more experienced tailor.

The visual effects took A LOT of work! At some point I felt lost between the recipe and the visual effects and the ghost. Or did I become the ghost? I was also supposed to collaborate on the music with a very talented pianist, but unfortunately he was unable to deliver, due to his busy schedule. It was really HARD to come up with a last minute solution for the soundtrack! #butMidoXSuno, you know how this goes...

The first attempt of the cake failed and when I decided to make it a second time, I forgot to put the charcoal, which makes it black. And there's plenty more disasters that happened behind the scenes on this project!! From broken eggs all over the kitchen counter, to a severe neck injury while I had to edit the final cut.

I genuinely hope that you will enjoy this video.

Happy Halloween to all of you; my spooky monsters! 🦇🎃🦇 by @midoeats

Today, the RelationChips Recipe Club partnered up with @midoeats to bring you something refreshing and a little different.

This mango cheesecake is Mido's translation from classic New York Style cheesecake, to something that uses local fruit instead. The Eweis mango topping is not the only ingredient that was changed, he also used Labneh instead of the traditional sour cream addition. This offered some extra tang to complement the sweetness of the mango.
While Mido claims not to be a Van Gough or a @michellerabin , he carefully and patiently engineered very thin mango slice swirls and patterns, to build a top that looks like Impressionist brush strokes.

Along with the visual, comes a handcrafted audio track, in which Mido sings about how his mom never really thought that cheese would fit in a dessert. We think she might have been converted after seeing this! 🥭🧀

Song writing credits also go out to @lobnasabahy and @ahmansourrr as they both helped Mido write his first song in a collaborative fashion.
Special thanks to @maisonvanille.eg for the absolutely mind-blowing vanilla extract and vanilla powder used in this recipe.

Through the summer evening window...
Final day of #FoodArtProject #FoodArtProjectSept26

I have seen so much beautiful art during this challenge! Best of luck to all entries! 🙏🏽

The golden hour with the Midas touch...
This homage to Van Gough using mango slices was pretty intense labor. It was my first time to try and decorate something that required so much skill, precision, architecture and patience.

Look at that glowing translucency!

Because of translucency of the tips of the mangoes, the light really transforms the color to show a whole array of orange gradients.

For the love of shadows 🖤 without which you wouldn't be able to see the intricate pattern.

Can I offer you a slice while you scroll?

Reflected light creates secular highlights that add so much sparkle to the subject ✨

When I think about lighting my scene, I always think about what mood I can create. The quality of the light can evoke so much emotion and deep feelings of desire, nostalgia or even comfort. The most important thing about visual appeal, is not just the esthetic you bring to the table, but rather the thought that you plant in the beholders' mind. by @midoeats

After Dark #FoodArtProjectSept26
It's been a while... But I am finally joining a @foodartproject challenge again and I am incredibly excited.
For my work to just be seen by @bealubas
and @mridulkawatra is an unmissable opportunity.
I looked at all the themes and decided that I might not be able to stick to them in chronological order. I was shooting my upcoming video and thought it would be interesting to try and take all the photos for this challenge from the same single recipe process. To observe and watch how light changes everything...

Texture...

First light...

It's no coincidence that I very often work in the evening. It's not as hot, the city is more quiet and the light is more magical.

I wanted to bake something... Original, authentic and bearing my seal.

I didn't use flash photography this time.

These are Ewees Mangoes. And Egyptian breed of mango that has a very distinct sweet, buttery taste and a somewhat floral aroma. Can't wait to show you all what I will be making. by @midoeats
