Yesterday, I shared an article that I had spent many days working on. It felt very vulnerable, and I was so moved when a few of you engaged with it.
It feels arrogant to say, but I’m proud of it, so I will keep sharing snippets from it from time to time, for the ones who can’t commit to reading a whole (very long) article. Most points on the list are small adjustments that many of us can fairly easily implement into our lives, like the one I’m sharing here.

In my latest article, I wrote: “The really efficient thing about teaching women to watch themselves is that eventually nobody else needs to do it for us: we don’t need someone standing next to us telling us that we’ve gained weight, we don’t need someone to remind us that ageing is undesirable. The external gaze becomes an internal one, and then we carry it around with us everywhere.” One of my life missions is try hard to talk to myself with the grace and compassion that society should’ve granted us all in the first place. And to talk to other women about it as well, because we need to rewrite the rules all together. Lately, I’ve been in close contact with another female athlete who I admire and who struggles with an eating disorder strikingly similar to mine. By trusting each other with our experiences, our obsessions, our anxieties, we shed light; and as we all know, shame can’t survive the light. I’m really grateful for all the people in my life who are there when I need help, and maybe even more for those who trust me enough to ask for help when they need it 🤍

It’s been a whole month since I made an honest woman out of @mini_alz and so many people have asked me “does it feel different?”

For sure it does, and here’s how:

1️⃣ I didn’t think she could be any more beautiful, but just putting a ring on her finger has magically elevated her beauty to unprecedented levels.

2️⃣ We both feel like we are pretending to be grown up’s and that feels pretty silly and whimsical

3️⃣ I always knew that we were going to get old and die together but this kind of seals the deal

4️⃣ It feels reassuring to have made this commitment to each other in a formal way, with our friends and family around us. It feel serious but in a calming way.

And finally I just feel so lucky that I get to goof around with my best friend on the daily. I never thought I would get married, it seemed like a totally unnecessary thing to do, but I’m so glad we decided to pretend to be adults, even if it was just for one day. Je t’aime my love ❤️ and happy one month anniversary 🎉🥳🎊 by @mini_alz

This is an appreciation post for what Kim Kardashian would call a “glam team”: the women who accepted the harrowing challenge of turning me into a bride within a few hours. Nails, hair, makeup (well, I did my own makeup, but they agreed to answer the “does my makeup still look okay?” question every 5 minutes); but also sorting out last minute flowers, doing unexpected arts and crafts, taking photos, and even managing Sam’s intense panic in the face of not receiving his suit in time. It was a high paced morning to say the least, but they showered us with love, laughter and endless amount of positive energy. I love you guys, thank you so much for making a special day so much more special. Women make the world go round 🤍

The New Roots anniversary was an amazing time, and a big highlight for me was sharing the stage with Virgina and Stéphane, talking about how craft and heritage can be reimagined in a way that aligns with animal liberation. We talked about our relationship to other species, and how coexistence instead of domination is achievable in a realistic way. Rejecting speciesism gives us an opportunity to reimagine our traditions, without losing the craft, care, and heritage. Society is ready to evolve as soon as we’re all ready to evolve 🐮♥️

Some of my closest friends live a little far away (like Interlaken), far away (like England), and very far away (like Canada). When Sam and I put together a last minute wedding, I really didn’t expect the Bridport-Whistler crew to show up. But they bloody did! And it might have been the best three days of my life; marrying my favourite person and spending time with people I adore but don’t get to see very much (especially all together), in my favourite place in the world. There was so much joy when they were here, and so many tears when they left 🥲 My life is wonderful and I’m so grateful for it, but if I could change one thing, it would be for my closest friends to be as close physically as they are emotionally. Thank you The Al, the Snake and The Robs for coming all this way to see me. I love you so much! 🤍

Here’s an excerpt from the speech I gave at my wedding:

“Three years ago, I made a list of my non-negotiables in a partner. It included things like: vegan, invested in social justice, doesn’t want kids, into the concept of exhausting themselves in the mountains on a regular basis. A few days later, I came across Sam and instantly knew he was the person from my list.”

If you know me, you know I stay away from spiritual platitudes. But it’s really hard not to feel like the universe got suspiciously specific with this one. To this day, I can’t believe Sam and I managed to find each other in this big world (being two vegan trail runners in the Alps might have helped, but still).

Sam, you’ve given me the kind of life, and love, I genuinely didn’t even know existed. You make me feel entirely seen, supported, and accepted. You make me feel safe, and you empower me to grow fully into myself; the best gift anyone can receive.

Your values, your humility, your curiousity, your integrity, your loyalty, your resilience, your care, your compassion (but also your silliness) make me feel like I’ve come home. Thank you for everything, I love you from the bottom of my heart 🤍
