the world lost some of its spark today for my family. my larger than life grandpa joined his younger brother and parents in heaven. he came to Detroit as a kid with the promise of his dad making $5 a week on the assembly line. he remained a lifelong Michigander, and a diehard lions and tigers fan. he made a career in magazine sales, so gregarious he got invited to teach Dale Carnegie trainings. this man could and would befriend everyone. when he found out I was due in August, he desperately hoped I would share his birthday, August 10th. I followed shortly behind him, and we would often have joint celebrations growing up. he was looking forward to walking the Mackinac bridge over Labor Day weekend, having been cleared by his cardiologist at age 90 to make the trek. he unfortunately fell at the end of July and didn’t get to make that trek. I’m heartbroken he’s gone, but overjoyed to know he’s somewhere drinking bud lite on a boat, listening to frank sinatra and finding out what really happened to Jimmy Hoffa. by @minimallory

Turns out befriending the loud girl at your internship going on about watermelon gazpacho will turn into a dear friendship where you are complete shithead roommates in New York, and discuss your latest GI supplement regimens on the regular. You’ll also find a fiercely loyal friend that you’ll mother bear from Brooklyn to upper Manhattan on the 4th of July after a panic attack, threaten to fight the shitty guy in her life with a patchy “beard”, and then eventually stand in your wedding. She’ll then break your heart by fleeing the country for a MAN and go have fabulous adventures in New Zealand as a result. *Results may vary in your personal life.*

Chloe, you are one of my dearest pals, and I’m simultaneously over the moon excited for your next chapter, and wanting to bonk you on the head for leaving. I’ll be ready and waiting in Michigan with overpriced margs and white people fusion tacos for our inevitable, eventual, yap sesh. by @minimallory
