Mirik Milan welcomes the arrival of a new night mayor, especially since he held the position himself. But the structure needs to change, he writes in this op-ed.

Hence this proposal: build in six to twelve months of reflection. Let a diverse group, one willing to step outside its own comfort zone, draw up a plan supported by the nightlife sector, the municipality, and residents. This isn’t about quickly finding a new face, but about the quality of the next team. Whether the next generation is elected or appointed: what matters is that the nightlife scene stands behind its representation. Especially now.

Cities After Dark: Creative West Night-time Economy Summit — what a day!

Last Friday I had the privilege of working with the Maribyrnong Council @mayor_mohamed_semra as Executive Producer and Presenter for the Cities After Dark: Creative West Night-time Economy Summit.

The event was sold out, proof, if we needed it, that the conversation around creative investment in the West is not just timely, it is urgent.

We kicked off with ideas and inspirations from leading experts including an overview of my Churchill Fellowship, A Key Note by the fabulous @vibelab_network Lab @mirikmilan Milan followed by a brilliant conversation Art Is Infrastructure And After Dark It Is Everything Panel.

Let’s keep this conversation ging and continue advocating for creative infrastructure. Continue championing the night-time economy. Continue building the partnerships and momentum that will help turn ideas into action. And more locally help Maribyrnong advocate for Creative West.

Amsterdam’s night is not in decline. It is evolving and the data shows it. VibeLab is proud to announce the launch of Amsterdam’s largest-ever night culture needs assessment report.

In collaboration with the Municipality of Amsterdam (Team Nachtcultuur) and PennPraxis, we surveyed residents to better understand how the city experiences and values its night.

The findings are clear: more than 90% of respondents participate in night culture, most go out several times a month, and demand for diverse, accessible, and inclusive spaces remains strong.

A milestone moment for the nighttime community! 🌙

We’re proud to share that our first Nightitime Economy Report (NTER) officially launched at the World Economic Forum in Davos.

We engaged with business leaders, government representatives, Professor Scott Galloway, and congress attendees at the DLD NightCap event at the Steigenberger Grandhotel. Mirik Milan (@vibelab_network) and Georgia McDonnell-Adams (Board Member @nighttimefoundation ) were interviewed by Monocle radio and presented the report as part of discussions held by the World Economic Forum 24h city initiative at the Belgium House hosted by @abinbev

We officially launched at the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting in Davos, Switzerland at Nightcap by DLD and will continue to be publishing annually to keep building comparable data and long-term insights for cities, policymakers, investors, researchers, and cultural practitioners.

The NTER report brings together original research, international data, investor perspectives, and case studies from cities worldwide. And its key ambition is to better connect the investment community with night-time economies - positioning nightlife as an emerging economic frontier across real estate, hospitality, creative enterprise, mobility, safety technologies, and community-led development.

Coming week marks a major milestone as the Nighttime Foundation and VibeLab will be bringing the topic of the nighttime economy to the World Economic Forum 2026 in Davos.

The Nighttime Foundation will be launching its inaugural annual Nighttime Economy Report (NTER) in Davos.

After World Urban Forum 12 Egypt , World Cities Culture Forum , OECD Development , people might say we’re mainstreaming the topic of the NTE or nightlife, but we see this as planting a seed and getting a seat at the table for what we love most: life at night.

Since we’re living in hyper-conservative times, meeting new people with different cultural backgrounds and perspectives is now even more important than ever. The nightlife creates exactly these spaces. And whether some like it or not, the way forward is emancipation, migration and electrification to build a sustainable future for everyone. Electrifying dance floors around the world bring all of this together.
