MEET THE PLAYWRIGHT: Madeline “Mo” Oslejsek (A Beautiful and Interesting Disease)

A queer multidisciplinary theatre artist and graduate of the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama (London), Oslejsek’s work interrogates identity, queerness, and the multiplicity of human experience. Her writing blends poetic imagination with theatrical experimentation, reflecting an evolving journey toward authenticity and artistic freedom.

Alongside their writing, Mo is an award-nominated sound designer. Recent credits include Happenstance Theatre’s JUXTAPOSE (59E59, Off-Broadway); An Enemy of the People (Theater J); Astro Boy and the God of Comics (Flying V Theatre, HH Outstanding Sound Design nominee); Orlando and Dracula: A Comedy of Terrors (Constellation Theatre Company); and Pippin (Assoc. Design, Signature Theatre).

We are so excited to announce the next cohort of Lab410, our new play development initiative dedicated to amplifying the voices of playwrights with deep connections to Baltimore. Following a competitive open call that drew dozens of submissions from across the region, three playwrights have been selected for the 2025/26 residency: Ty’Ree Hope Davis, Madeline “Mo” Oslejsek, and Jalice Ortiz-Corral.

Each playwright will participate in a year-long residency, receiving developmental support, mentorship, and the opportunity to present a public reading or workshop of their new work. 📸: @macephotos.4u taken in Baltimore Center Stage by @mo_mentum17

i am still beaming from my first Helen Hayes with @theatrewash! to be in a room full of such incredible love for the theatre is an experience unlike any other. i’m so honoured to be nominated amongst such talented, dedicated, fearless creatives. at a time when the arts and artists are under attack, it feels momentous to have basked in the exuberant glow of community with other theatre-makers all night.

congratulations to all my fellow nominees and award winners! a special shout out to my Astroboy fam @dmarredondo and @marquismarkie — it was a pleasure to make magic with you and i can’t wait to do it again. and one more shoutout to @eric.m.norris — i’m so grateful to know you as a collaborator, mentor, and friend.

CONGRATULATIONS EVERYONE, and thank you for putting your heart into this wild thing we love: theatre. taken in The Anthem by @mo_mentum17

A day like any other.
A promise to get home before the streetlamps come on.
A young woman forced into the known unknown.

Join us for the first episode in our new “Theatre In The Dark” series, where we invite @astralgroundproductions to build a collection of narrative soundscape experiences featuring and inspired by the work of local artists. The series begins with a remount of their work “SCAT: An Ode to the Bright Eyed and Bushy Tailed” at our HQ in Hampden. by @mo_mentum17
