We made this humble little book - part catalogue, part brand book - for Isokon last year. It was all about economy. It needed to do a lot with a little and be a genuine functional tool for the brand. It is used as a catalogue, calling card, reference, leave behind and even exhibition graphic.

We chose the familiar paperback book as inspiration. Not least because of Isokon’s history of association with publishers Penguin (the iconic Penguin Donkey) and have purposefully replicated the scale, paper and print. It’s a format we will use over again.

It’s a pleasingly efficient little thing. Cheap enough to print and give away liberally, generous enough to be a real gift. We are storming through our second print run right now.

Of course it’s another fine use for our brilliant brand imagery by @chieskafortunesmith too. Graphic design by GTF.

The Cut-Out Chair is, strictly speaking, not a reedition. Although designed and prototyped in 1936 by Marcel Breuer for Isokon, it never made it into production. We may never know why, but I’d like to think it was just too progressive.

Today it’s no-nonsense characterful profile, economy of material and clever construction will have little trouble finding fans. It’s been a pleasure to be part of the team bringing this important and largely unknown Breuer design to life and giving it its place, finally, in the Isokon collection.

We’ve been busy over the last year working on something extra special; the creative direction of Isokon Furniture. Isokon is an icon of modernism, a London brand, a maker of exquisite skill and a bastion of minimal design. Our work is to revive Isokon for a new generation.

First up has been the brand’s visual identity. For which we worked with the perennially magnificent Graphic Thought Facility to create a logo and graphics worthy of an incredible history, poised for a dynamic future. The rigour of modernism, place, the elegance of manufacture were all inspiration.

Specially commissioned photography by the phenomenal Chieska Fortune Smith cements imagery as a fundamental cornerstone of the brand.

Our work has only just begun. Watch this space for more adventures in plywood.

Thanks to the outstanding team at @Isokon.furniture for letting us in and partners in crime #graphicthoughtfacility

Yrjö Kukkapuro has been admired by Modern Design Review for, well, forever. Few designers can compete with Yrjö’s originality, technical superiority, and damn exciting work.

We featured Yrjö in issue 1 of Modern Design Review, focusing on his little-known post modern period. It was a privilege to spend time with Yrjö and his work, shooting chair after incredible chair.

Exactly ten years later, we are beyond delighted to have been involved in the reissue of the crown in Yrjö’s post modern work, the Experiment Chair. Originally designed in 1984, the Experiment Chair is now being introduced to a whole new generation by our friends at @hem

Much love to @livelikeakukkapuro
Tack to @hem
Throwback thanks to @osmaharvilahti
Congrats to @studiokukkapuro
