As a pro makeup artist, I thought I knew everything about beauty. Then I became a mother.

In my corporate world, I make impactful decisions and navigate high-stakes challenges. In the beauty world, I’m my clients’ biggest advocate, helping them step into moments they only get one shot at: a wedding, a red carpet, a live TV show. I thought that was where beauty lived, in the moment someone finally sees themselves the way they hoped they would.

Then motherhood showed me every hat I wear had simply been preparing me for this one. And this beauty isn’t tied to how I look, or the makeup on my face. It’s how I feel when I show up. It’s the beauty in moments only I can fully understand, everything I overcame just to be present. The beauty of becoming, over and over. The beauty of growing beside my son as he grows. The beauty of choice. Resilience, my new beauty routine.

@momsinmakeup was created to discover more of that. Beautiful moments can be manufactured with cosmetics (& there’s nothing wrong with it!), but real beauty only shows up when we decide it does. by @momsinmakeup

Brooke is the mama of 4 boys with one more on the way 🩵 a union makeup artist, master cosmetologist, and the kind of woman who has never once slowed down long enough to be put in a box.

Netflix. HULU. Disney. That’s her Tuesday. But ask her what drives her and she’ll tell you it’s the artists the ones coming up, the ones burning out, the ones who just need someone to believe in them first.
Two decades deep. Hollywood credits. Broadcast networks. Runway stages. Team Pat McGrath. And through all of it a mama, first and always.
She’s one of our moms in makeup. And she knows firsthand that beauty and motherhood don’t just belong in the same conversation they belong in the same breath.

Meet @shiedhaburbage
Shiedha is a wife, mother to a son, and a corporate executive by day. By passion, she’s a professional makeup artist, entrepreneur, and Hampton University alum who went on to found the DMV’s first Black-owned luxury bridal beauty team. Two decades in the industry, countless red carpets, celebrity faces, and editorial spreads later, she’s bringing her expertise right here, to us.

She’s one of our moms in makeup. And she believes beauty and motherhood belong in the same conversation.
