🎙️ Tonight! Experimental hip-hop artist Rael joins Joe in the studio for a live set and interview, amongst track selections including Erykah Badu, Moor Mother, billy woods & Tricky.

Rael makes text-and-speech based music; warped beats and existential poetry, the pits and peaks of love and imagination, late nights and: long walks through the city. The sound world beats a dark slow rhythm, drawing on post-dub, guitar music and trip-hop. Rael is formally of the disaster pop group Nukuluk.

Alien 1 is a group/band/night built up from text messages, kinship and slow work.

This Sunday 3 of May I'll be performing a trio set as @rraaaeeel with trombonist @charliekeen.silverbirch and drummer Cole O'Neill @uncle.leather .

The performance is at @avaloncafebermondsey for @thethreewheeldrive . Dj's and performances from 17:00 until 2:00.

Last week I had the sweet pelasure of putting out a 5 track EP 'Towards Muscle' fruit of a tender 3 day collaboration between @tlkvox @cud.recs and myself.

It was a true revelation in my music making process (love, limitations and letting go are very important). It's been recieved with love, the same way it has been made and for that I am very thankful.

I've been turning down shows recently trying to focus on making some more recordings. here is so so much music to be explored, and so little time. HoWEVER I could not turn down these ones:

🎵 Wednesday 26 I will be supporting @mrymrymry___ for their single release show at the Greyhound. @prayer_tech also on the bill. Very very pleased

🎵 Wednesday 3 December supporting @lolk.unofficial for their album show. Long long time being in music alongside them, extroainaroly meaningful for me. @angbry___ also on the bill.

🎵 Friday 12 December playing a little something something but that's not announced yet. Keep your eyes peeled.

❤️‍🔥All I do is work and make sounds and write texts, many many things to share, all coming in due time. ❤️‍🔥

Adam Christensen (UK/DK) : Drawing on his immediate experiences, the spectacle of domesticity, chance encounters and emotional and physical dramas, Christensen writes lyrics that he later powerfully performs in self-made extravagant drag, she sings and screams the theatricality of everyday life and its emotional dramas.

RAEL(UK)
London-based experimental hip-hop artist from London marrying text based music (rap, spoken word, poetry) with warped experimental beats. His sound world is heavy, dark and intense, drawing from electronic/post-dub, analog hip-hop, and trip-hop.
 Alice Köppel (CH)
Switzerland based artist that reaches for the stars - and seemingly casually becomes a superstar in the process. Nonchalantly shouting and staggeringly dancing in squiggles, she explores what it means to have a voice, or much rather: to give oneself a voice.

Anna Franziska Jäger (BE)
Maroussia falls in love with a young man she danced with all night. At midnight, she follows him to church and sees him devouring a corpse. Anna Franziska makes a performance based on the poem Molodets or De jongen, le Gars, the Swain (1924) by Marina Tsvetaeva, who was inspired by an old Russian folktale.

@rraaaeeel is now a few months old and a few gigs wiser. Many many thanks to all who have organised, attended, enjoyed, hated, performed, engineered at all the various shows accross this city and the world. I've found these months very full and filling (sometimes too much) and as my previous project ends I've felt many feelings of dejections and freedom and elation.

Special love to @cold_light_music, @louis_khz , @sssssssaaaaaaaafffffff , @r0zm0z, @olofmelander , @best.available.technology, @9_piglet_9, @leather.head_, @theyisgrove, @cud.recs @sistermidnightldn , @invivo63 and @blackfondu for their extraordinarily meaningful support.

I'm so proud to say that @rraaaeeel will be at its first festival, @cwfarmfest on 24 August 2025. This will be my last solo show for a bit as I turn my attention to the wondrous musical world of @cold_light_music.

On 6 of September 2025 an Ensemble of @adrian.utley, @civilistjavel, @perkopair, @cold_light_music, myself, Charles Hayward and many more will grace the stage (again) in London courtesy of @atomiser_org. The last two iteration if this show in Bristol and Copenhagen changed the way I think about performance and music. A show not to be missed. Tickets are already very low.

There will be 3 more shows in September. More TBA.

I AM VERY PLEASED TO HAVE PERFORMED MUSIC WITH ALL MY FRIENDS IN BRISTOL AND COPENHAGEN. THESE SETS WERE LARGELY IMPROVISED SO I FEEL LIKE A JAZZ POET.

I WILL BE PERFORMING SOME NEW POEMS ALONGSIDE LEGENDS @livwynter, @niks.flint AND @ifindoubtaskella AT THE NEWLY REOPENED @matchstickpiehouse FOR @howtocatchapigacab's HOW TO CATCH A POEM !

Many thanks to the attendees, artist and organisers of last week work in progress performance. I had a good time.

This weekend I'm in Bristol opening for the supergroup of @cold_light_music, @perkopair, @civilistjavel and @adrian.utley. also on support is @bethanyley_ .
