Offline Marat reimagines Jacques-Louis David's The Death of Marat in the age of social media. The bathtub becomes a bed, the fatal letter a smartphone, and political assassination is replaced by emotional betrayal. The phone is both witness and weapon, exposing the fragility of trust in digitally mediated relationships. Rather than depicting violence, the work captures its aftermath, exploring loneliness, vulnerability, and the hidden emotional cost of living a life shaped by constant connection and public visibility.

I’m very happy (and slightly surprised!) to share that my self-portrait has been shortlisted for the British Photography Awards 2026. 🥹

This image is my take on the pressure women face to stay young, thin, beautiful and permanently “on trend” in a world ruled by algorithms and social media.

Inspired by Leonardo da Vinci’s Lady with an Ermine, I replaced the traditional symbol of status with a laboratory rat on a screen. The mask hides my individuality, while the measuring tape around my neck represents the pressure we put on our bodies and the impossible standards we are constantly measured against.

It’s meant to look beautiful, but also a little uncomfortable. Because somewhere between beauty, technology, consumerism and the endless search for validation, I wonder how much of the cage we actually built ourselves.

My primary intention for this portrait, was to strip away the distractions of colour and environment to draw absolute attention to Alexia’s natural beauty and the arresting power of her eyes.
To achieve this, I framed her with oversized, hand sculpted white paper flowers. The delicate geometric petals act as both a organic frame and a visual mask, partially obscuring her face to create a sense of mystery and vulnerability. the resulting image is a timeless study of strength, stillness, and the captivating depth of a single, piercing gaze.

Misread.
How we see ourselves. How we are seen by others. Somewhere between the two, identity becomes constructed, distorted and negotiated. This self-portrait uses the individual as a lens to question the wider tension between self-perception and the gaze of society.

40%.

That number changed history.

For the first time ever, 266 women now sit in the UK House of Commons, making up 40.9% of all MPs.

So what did we do?

We photographed them.

Hundreds of women photographers from across the UK, brought together by the Royal Photographic Society Women in Photography Group, set out to create a visual record of this moment. Not because 40% is the finish line, but because history deserves to be seen, remembered and preserved.

Now we need your help.

The photographs are made. The stories are there. But unless we reach our Kickstarter goal, this extraordinary project may never become the beautiful book it deserves to be.

So today I’m asking for a little extra push.

If you’ve been cheering women on, if you believe representation matters, if you’ve ever supported the arts, photography, or simply love seeing history documented… this is your moment.

And when I say everyone, I really do mean EVERYONE.

Happy International Portrait Day!

What better way to celebrate than by digging through the archive and rediscovering old work?

Today I’m sharing Offline Marat, a self portrait inspired by Jacques-Louis David’s The Death of Marat. In David’s painting, Marat is shown holding a letter, a symbol of political turmoil, revolution, and the power of communication. In my version, the letter has become a smartphone, perhaps today’s most powerful object.

Made years ago, this image feels increasingly relevant. We scroll through wars, political crises, protests, and endless streams of information from the comfort of our beds. Connected to everything, yet sometimes strangely detached from it all.

Funny how photographs can return years later and start speaking in a completely different voice.

There is no better way to start the week than being invited to the absolutely stunning vernissage of Anish Kapoor at the Hayward Gallery, Southbank. I was already quite familiar with the work of this artist, but it was my first opportunity to truly experience his reality-bending installations in person.

What struck me most was how much the works change as you move around them. Some pieces seem almost impossible to photograph because they constantly shift depending on your angle and the light.
Some works completely mess with your sense of space and perspective, making you question what you’re actually looking at. Others draw you in through their scale and simplicity. It’s one of those exhibitions where photos really don’t do the work justice.

I found myself walking back and forth, trying to understand what I was seeing. It was fascinating, immersive, and at times slightly disorienting in the best possible way. Definitely an exhibition worth seeing in person.

My favourite art critic stopped by the studio last week. Observant. Completely immune to art theory.Stayed a long time with the painting, which I’m choosing to interpret as very serious approval. 🐾🎨

This is the third painting from Étude for Dreamers.The project is beginning to take shape. I don’t yet know where it will lead me, but I’m truly enjoying the journey and letting the paintings reveal their own direction.
