Another knockout from BK Borison 😍 I’ve no idea what she puts in her books, but I haven’t had a single miss yet.

Grim Tidings follow Darcy and Gabriel, a reaper and an angel, both floating through life unfulfilled. She’s on the run from her job, and he doesn’t trust her in the slightest. An unlikely alliance is formed when Gabriel agrees to help her check off her bucket list if she agrees to leave when it’s complete. What starts as animosity and blatant dislike soon becomes something more, something deeper.

The conflict between the two was done really well. There were moments I wasn’t sure Gabriel would be able to turn it around, which is exactly what I want in a true enemies to lovers. And yet that man did.

And Darcy, my sweet girl. I wanted to reach into that book and give her a hug. She’s so deep in her pain but she still sees the joy in everything around her; she just struggles to see it in herself. She also deserves a standing ovation for not punching Gabriel in those early chapters 😂

Don’t you love it when the stars align and a tbr book is picked by your book club. This has been on my shelf for a while, so I finally got the push to pick it up and omg I loved it! Exactly what I want in a small town, ranch setting romance.

I loved how Josie and Lincoln meet, have a whirlwind week together and then return to their lives - it feels real, and isn’t something I see often in romance. Josie’s uncertainty is perfectly balanced by Lincoln’s steadiness. All three sisters are fleshed out nicely, meaning neither Lennox nor Cleo feel like side characters. I can’t wait for their stories.

I got round to finishing this duet, book 2 just didn’t work for me for some reason? I struggled with the writing, the characters felt so far removed from where they were in book 1, some plot points were just never explored (the dragons, Nikolai’s love confession, hello?), and the inner conflict got repetitive so quickly. It’s a real shame, because I was pulled in by the first book and looking forward to the conclusion.

Glad I can tick some more KM Moronova books off my tbr though!

As if it’s October! Read a lot in September, ticked off some more RinaVerse and some of my physical tbr. Both book clubs did me well this month! I’ve been loving contemporary romance lately. Monthly fave? Gotta be the Heartstring duet, I couldn’t put them down!

This has been on my tbr so long and I finally got round to reading it! And you know what? It was really bloody good. Emotional. Raw. Unfiltered. Seeing these two navigate life, how the hurdles they face kept pulling them apart, whilst still just yearning for each other? Ughhh. I wish I had read it sooner!

Happy Friday! What was the highlight of your week? I’m getting married soon, so I spent my week either working or crossing things off the wedding checklist.

I’m a bit behind on book club reviews and this was a no-go for me. I made it to about 25%, and even that was a slog. I’m really not sure how I’d categorise this. It feels like it could be a mystery or thriller when you first pick it up but as you get more into it, it’s honestly very straightforward. I ended up getting spoilers from my friend and I’m so glad I didn’t continue 😅 They can’t all be winners I guess!

This duet 😭 The first quarter of Crown Me Dead I wasn’t sure; the writing is a bit overly descriptive, almost nonsensical at times.

But once it found its footing, man did it live up to the hype. I couldn’t stop thinking about it, wanted to be reading it constantly, and I ended up reading the second book in 2 sittings, staying up late to finish. Honestly that’s high praise! Books rarely keep me up at night because this gal loves going to bed on time 😂

Some of the writing about grief, death, and love, and how the three often walk alongside each other, was gorgeous. The way it explores love being felt across generations, its impact lingering through lifetimes, was truly moving. In hindsight, I wish I had been tabbing these books. Maybe I’ll have to read them again 😅 if nothing else, this duet is perfect for the ‘ber months!

So happy I finally got to visit Rare Birds in Edinburgh! I always try to get a few book stores in whenever I travel somewhere new. To say the shop is gorgeous is an understatement. I wish I had loved this but I’m sorry, we just didn’t vibe 😭 if you love this duet pls stop reading now 😅

The fmc had red hair instead of a personality, and the mmc fell for her immediately with no development. Honestly that’s all I have to say about the fmc and the romance.

My real gripe was the mental health representation. I felt like Alex’s mother’s lifelong battles with bipolar disorder were used primarily to create some tragic backstory to prop up Alex, to paint him as this resilient survivor. She remains two dimensional throughout the entire duet. Then there’s Alex himself, who we’re repeatedly reminded has severe depression. Aside from a few calls with his therapist though, we never see his apparent illness actually impacting his life or his relationships. It felt like a cheap attempt at making him endearing rather than a subject that was going to be explored with sensitivity.

I held off reading both until Daybreak came out because I’ve only seen such glowing reviews and didn’t want to wait. In hindsight, I wish I’d dnf’ed Nightshade 😅 oh well! They can’t all be 5 stars for all of us!
