A time was had last week!

What a privilege and blessing it is to create. And what an even greater privilege it was to bring this film to life alongside such an incredibly TALENTED cast and crew.

As independent filmmakers, we pour so much of ourselves into getting these projects made, never fully knowing where the journey will lead. To have @funnyfeelingsmovie selected by the @americanblackfilmfestival and recognized with four award nominations is an honor beyond words.

We are deeply grateful to @americanblackfilmfestival for providing a platform that celebrates Black storytellers and for giving our film the opportunity to be seen, felt, and experienced by audiences.

And a huge thank you to @scene.heard for supporting the film and @rodfather_productions

The testimony will be televised!

I didn’t think this day would be possible. For years I have put in all that I could to make this day happen. While working my full time job as an attorney, I spent every night targeting potential speakers; reaching out to companies about sponsoring the event; creating flyers and running social media; reaching out to different organizations to partner with me; and it still wasn’t enough.

Five weeks prior to this day, I had less than 40 people registered and only 3 sponsors. I was working harder than I ever had, and was still falling short. I was stressed and anxious because I was afraid of letting my speakers down and letting the sponsors who did believe in me down. I did absolutely everything I could, and it just wasn’t enough. But God.

I knew that this idea was God inspired. He had already opened so many doors for me, but with five weeks out, I felt abandoned. I spoke with @drkendramomon and @mobeast1 and they mentioned how sometimes God will get you to the point where you can’t deny His impact; where you have no choice but to recognize what He has done. And my husband @kylekokaram reminded me daily that God doesn’t say no, He says “yes,” “not now,” or “I have something better for you.” So I had no choice but to blindly trust Him.

Fast forward to last Saturday - over 200 women of color joined in person for The She League Conference; I gained 3x the number of sponsors I had 5 weeks earlier; and the day was AMAZING.

I thank God for His grace and unconditional love. I thank Him for using me here. I thank Him for the intimacy that came from this place of vulnerability. And I thank Him for filling the gaps in my own inabilities. And thank you to everyone who supported this dream of mine! by @morgankokaram

As one of the producers behind @rodfather_productions , she helped take Both Eyes Open straight to a distribution deal—bypassing the festival circuit entirely—and landing at #1 on Starz. Now with Funny Feelings starring @yesimprettyvee and @mackwilds in post-production, she’s proving that strong legal foundations and authentic storytelling aren’t just compatible—they’re essential.

But Morgan’s impact goes far beyond the credits. From founding The She League to serving on the board of Heart for Africa for nearly 15 years, she’s building pathways for women of color and overlooked voices to not just enter rooms, but lead them.

We’ll be discussing the journey of bringing this film to life, from development and production to the lessons we’ve learned as independent producers, and what it takes to tell stories that connect with audiences.

It’s a privilege to be part of a festival that continues to champion Black creatives and celebrate the next generation of storytellers. We’re looking forward to sharing our experience, connecting with fellow filmmakers, and continuing the conversation around independent cinema.

This Father’s Day, I find myself more grateful for you than ever before.

When we met ten years ago, you were already a dad to the craziest, snaggle-toothed two-year-old who I’m now so blessed to call my son. I fell in love with you, but I also fell in love with the father you were. Watching you love him made me certain of the kind of man you are.

Now, years later, seeing you as the father of three, with our even crazier girls wrapped around your fingers; I am overwhelmed with gratitude that we get to do this life with you.

You and I both know this past year has been one of the hardest (and insane???). How we made it onto God’s toughest soldiers list, I’ll never know! There were days when you were carrying burdens so heavy that most people would have folded under the weight of them. And yet, somehow, you still gave the little you had left to our family, even when I didn’t fully understand how much you were giving.

That’s what I will remember most about this year.

The way you loved them when you were exhausted. The way you comforted them when your own heart was hurting. The way you kept showing up when it felt like you had nothing left to give.

This year, you taught me what love really looks like, and I will never take that for granted.

I am so proud of the father you are. So proud of your strength. So proud of your resilience. And so proud of the example you set every single day.

You are the best thing that has ever happened to Jorden, Riley, and Logan; and, most importantly, to me. And I’ll never stop reminding them of that (or you!).

If children weren’t so expensive, I’d probably give you another one. 🤣

But for now, I’ll just say this:

I love you.
I’m proud of you.
I am endlessly thankful for you.
