My latest trend piece for @housebeautiful

If you’ve glimpsed the listing of Travis Kelce’s recent real estate purchase in Bratenahl, Ohio, you’d notice the gorgeous disco-ball-like leaded windows of the 21,000-square-foot Elizabethan Tudor manse known as Moyenage.

According to @theagencycleveland , which listed the property, the estate has six leaded windows, including the entrance and dining halls, and seven sets of French doors with a leaded glass pattern. Plus, there is an observatory with amber glass skylights that’s like something out of a fairy tale. It’s hard not to assume that Taylor Swift took notice of these details while touring the house.

“The leaded glass is more than a defining feature of the home’s history: it shapes the way the interiors are experienced,” says @thedavidayers , one of the property’s listing agents. “As light moves through the glass, it creates an ever-changing interplay of shadow, texture, and character that enhances the home’s distinctive architectural details.”

What an honor to pen a home tour for the 130th issue of @housebeautiful magazine.

The Carmel-by-the-Sea project by @bamoinc is true storybook tale inspired by the Cotswolds. “It’s a historical reference, but used selectively, so it
never feels overly thematic,”
BAMO principal designer Michael Booth told me.

Embracing comfort rooted in authenticity is what House Beautiful is all about. As the iconic Billy Baldwin pointed out, luxury should not be confused with grandeur. “To me, comfort is perhaps the ultimate luxury,” he once said.

Looking at this cottage, you'd never know this house was built from the ground up. That's because every detail, from straw-laced plaster walls to reclaimed oak beams to stone sourced from England, was selected with utmost consideration. And that's just the architecture, wait until you read about the custom @degournay murals meant to reflect the surrounding landscape.

The Cotswolds supplied the reference point; BAMO translated rather than reproduced.

Straw-laced plaster walls and handmade windows, paired with reclaimed oak beams and stone sourced from England, establish the vocabulary and lend the house a sense of age, while the California coast keeps the interpretation from becoming literal.

Grateful to @housebeautiful for featuring the residence in its 130th anniversary issue, on newsstands September 15!

Sundays are for R&R, and a bit of leisurely reading.

Penning Home Tour stories for @housebeautiful magazine is one of my favorite sections because I get a glimpse of the real design backstory. It’s never as simple as choosing a color palette. Plus, it’s a way to build stronger connections and relationships with interior designers (and their wonderful publicists.)

Let me (re)introduce myself.

When I graduated from the @uflorida College of Journalism and Communications, I wasn't quite sure where my career would go. I just wanted to work for a glossy magazine in New York. And, I did.

I started as an intern @womenshealthmag, hopped over to the fashion closet @WWD, before landing as a research editor @brides.

After leaving New York more than 15 years ago, I started writing and editing on a freelance basis. No regrets here. Along the way, I've picked up bylines for @nytimes, @wsjoffduty, @natgeo, and @incmagazine, among others. While I cover everything from stargazing tips for @afarmedia to breathing techniques for @yogajournal, my specialty focuses on interiors and design.

By writing for @archdigest and @housebeautiful, I was inspired to start my own design consulting business, @designfix.cle in Shaker Heights, where I am based.

The BEST part about my job is the opportunity to meet fascinating people and connect with my community--whether it's in Cleveland or remotely, 👋!

Don't hesitate to reach out.
