POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

🎬✨ THAT’S A WRAP ON THE 2ND ANNUAL MPT FILM FESTIVAL! ✨🎬

What an unforgettable day celebrating the creativity, courage, and artistic vision of our 9th and 10th grade MPT filmmakers. @cunyua @nycschools @nycps.arts @roybalfilmandtv @madein_ny

Over the course of this school year, our students transformed ideas into stories, writing scripts, directing scenes, operating cameras, recording sound, and editing original films that reflected their voices, experiences, and imaginations. Seeing our entire MPT community come together to laugh, think, cheer, and celebrate one another’s work reminded us exactly why we built this school.

To our student filmmakers: your stories matter. Your voices matter. And this is only the beginning. 🎞️
A special thank you to our incredible Film & CTE Department, our supportive families, our community partners, and our special guest Emelyn Stuart, founder of Stuart Cinema, for believing in the next generation of storytellers and providing every MPT student with a special opportunity to continue experiencing the magic of cinema this summer. 🍿🎬 @stuartcinema @emelynstuart

As we close out our second year at Motion Picture Technical High School, we are filled with pride and excitement for what lies ahead. The future of film is bright, and it is being created right here in Hollywoodside.

🎥 Roll the teaser. Relive the magic. And get ready for what’s next.

A bold vision. One campus. Endless possibilities. 🚀

The first school year at The Queens Innovation Center is underway, and the impact is already inspiring. Located in Woodside, Queens, this state-of-the-art campus brings together four schools united by a shared mission: preparing students for careers in the arts, technology, and healthcare.

The Queens Innovation Center is the result of a powerful partnership between Superintendents Fred Walsh and Dr. Keisha McCoy, working together to expand career pathways and opportunities for students across New York City.

Leading this innovative campus are four exceptional school leaders:

🩺 Erika Hurtado-Valentina — Northwell School of Health Sciences @nshs_nycps
🎬 Kevin Lopez — Motion Picture Technical High School @motionpicturenyc
💻 Luis Familia — Gotham Tech High School @gothamtechhighschool
🌟 Jonathan Lonshien — P993Q @75q993

Together, these schools are building a collaborative campus where students explore filmmaking, robotics, healthcare careers, software development, and so much more, learning with cutting-edge resources and industry partnerships that prepare them for the future.

Year 1 is just the beginning!

Lights. Camera. Access. 🎥

Student filmmakers at @motionpicturenyc had the opportunity to learn from George Clooney and Bryan Lourd, founders of the Roybal Film and Television Production Fund.

From showcasing their own work to exploring diverse career pathways across film production and beyond, these students are showing that the future of film is already here at MPT.

Celebrating culture, community, and Hispanic heritage at MPT! 🇨🇴🇲🇽🇩🇴🇪🇨🇵🇷

This past week, we closed out Hispanic Heritage Month by celebrating the cultures, stories, and pride that make our school community so special.

Shoutout to our students for proudly representing their countries, our wonderful film teachers for making space for flag face painting in their classrooms, and our community coordinators and community associate for putting together a Hispanic Heritage Month reel screened in film classes! 👏🎥

Celebrating our heritage helps students feel seen, builds connections, and gives us all a chance to learn from one another. Every culture brings stories worth telling—and at MPT, we’re proud to make space for them. ✨

🎬📚 Lights. Camera. Literacy!

An incredible launch of Module 101: Introduction to the Science of Reading at Motion Picture Technical High School!

Our MTSS team did a marvelous job leading our faculty through the importance of literacy and Scarborough’s Reading Rope, exploring how word recognition and language comprehension work together to develop skilled readers. As a NYC Reads Phase One high school, we’re strengthening Tier 1 instruction across disciplines so every student can access challenging texts, build knowledge, and find their voice.

NYC Reads represents an investment in research-based instruction and deep professional learning. At MPT, that means empowering the next generation of diverse storytellers and filmmakers through the power of literacy.

Special thanks to Principal Blanca Cruz and Trisha Lutero Ferris from the Roybal Film and Television Production Magnet for joining us! From New York to Los Angeles, we share a commitment to elevating literacy and expanding opportunities for young creators.

Two coasts. One shared commitment. We can do this together! ✨ @roybalfilmandtv

Thank you so much to everyone who joined us tonight, both virtually and in person. We truly appreciate you taking the time to be part of our meeting and staying engaged with our community.

As we mentioned yesterday, we have been facing a few challenges with online communication, especially because tonight’s gathering was more than just a regular meeting—it also included our elections.

We wanted to make sure that Mr. Lopez had the opportunity to speak directly with the parents, answer questions, and clarify any concerns. We were happy to give him the floor and allow everyone the opportunity to hear from him.

We are also very happy to announce the results of tonight’s elections. Please join us in congratulating Katherine Vanegas, our new Vice President, and Leonardo Diaz, our new Communications Officer! 🎉

Congratulations to both of you! We look forward to working together and continuing to build a strong, supportive, and connected community.

Thank you again to everyone for your participation, support, and commitment.

¡Muchas felicidades a ambos! Esperamos trabajar juntos y continuar construyendo una comunidad fuerte, unida, solidaria y comunicada.

Una vez más, gracias a todos por su participación, apoyo y compromiso. ❤️#mpt #pta #hollywoodside taken in Woodside, Queens by @motionpicturenyc

🎬 It’s that time of year!

Our 9th graders are officially heading into production on their first crewed film project: THE SHOE! 👟🎥

Every crew is shooting the same script, but where they take it is up to them. Over the next few weeks, students will be filming on location all across NYC, working together to plan their shoots, coordinate schedules, and bring their own version of The Shoe to life.

We’ll also be keeping our campus open and supervised after school next week for crews who want to shoot here.

Parents and guardians: for more information about filming expectations, scheduling, and after-school access, please reach out to your child’s Film teacher or check their Film Foundations Google Classroom.

Can’t wait to see what they make! 🎬👟 taken in Woodside, Queens by @motionpicturenyc
