With the launch of Motion Picture Technical High School, we are bringing Hollywood to Woodside, Queens. Calling it —> #HOLLYWOODSIDE 🗽🎥⭐️
.
.
Did you know? Queens, NY, has played a significant role in the history of cinema, serving as the birthplace of the American film industry before Hollywood became its epicenter. In the early 20th century, Astoria, Queens, was home to major film studios, including the famous Kaufman Astoria Studios, which opened in 1920. This studio attracted numerous productions and notable industry figures, contributing to the area's reputation as a filmmaking hub. The presence of these studios helped cultivate a rich ecosystem of talent and resources, fostering innovation and creativity in film. Even today, Queens continues to be an important location for film production, offering diverse settings and maintaining its legacy within the industry.

This morning, we celebrated the opening of @motionpicturenyc in @d30cec, giving our scholars access to high-quality public school education. This new high school on Northern Boulevard will provide students with technical film and television skills to prepare them for careers at institutions like Silvercup Studios and beyond. Thank you to @realdavidcbanks and @nycschools for your partnership in providing our children with the educational opportunities they need to flourish.
