WHAT’S ON THE WRIST? @mrshepherdson is wearing his @omega Constellation Day-Date (Ref. 396.1070) from the 1980s, which is known among collectors as “The Owl” thanks to the day and date subdials that look a little like the eyes of a nocturnal bird of prey. The stainless steel case measures a super-wearable 35mm in diameter and an ultra-thin 6.5mm in thickness, which, when combined with the clasp that extends when opened, makes for a supremely comfortable watch on the wrist. Let us know in the comments below what you think about this neo-vintage gem from Omega. by @mrshepherdson

Here’s a look behind the scenes at how we shot the @bulova Accutron Spaceview photographs for my article in the first edition of the @hodinkeeaustralia Magazine.

Disassembly of the donor movement took some delicate hands before the tweezers went in to perfectly align the movement parts beneath the camera in our light box setup.

A big thank you to @georgiajanegriffiths for assisting with the shoot and for doing an extraordinary job retouching the images into the final photographs you see in the magazine - it looks better than I ever imagined.

The @hodinkeeaustralia Magazine Vol. 1 is on newsstands now, and I’m so proud to have an article in it.

Ad Astra - diving into the unbelievable history and engineering behind the Bulova Accutron. I’ve been infatuated with these watches for over a decade, ever since I encountered a picture of one in a high school library book. I was so obsessed with it I quietly ripped the page out of the book to take it home (sorry Randwick Boys High School).

The story behind the Accutron is impressive but so is the watchmaking, which is often cast aside as boring and soulless, not worthy of appreciation.

It couldn’t be further from the truth and I wanted to show it, so I disassembled a broken Accutron movement and photographed the components that made it hum. I wanted to capture the extraordinarily complicated and hidden watchmaking inside an Accutron, showing details never before appreciated outside the view of a watchmakers loupe. A big thank you to @georgiajanegriffiths for assisting with this shoot, without her help these photographs wouldn’t have been possible.

Hodinkee Australia Magazine Vol. 1 is on sale now, including this story and many others from the exceptional Hodinkee Australia & New Zealand team. I’ve put a link in my bio if you’d like to purchase a copy of the magazine. by @mrshepherdson

Taking your Cartier Tank or Reverso for a swim is a pretty quick way to need a trip to your watchmaker, but that’s exactly what makes the @sericawatches Parade such an outlier. The Parisian brand built a shaped dress watch using tool watch construction, clamping the caseback to the bezel to reach 100m of water resistance at just 8.6mm thick. Its 36mm oval case nods to the avant-garde shapes of the ‘70s without copying any of them, framing a sunray brass dial cut with an S-curve guilloché. For a country where most of us live on the coast, it might be the most useful dress watch an Aussie could own. @mrshepherdson has more on hodinkee.com.au. by @mrshepherdson

WHAT'S ON THE WRIST? Japanese architect Tadao Ando has spent a career placing giant green apple sculptures outside his buildings, and the Cauny Ando (following several sold-out collaborations with Bulgari) is the first watch he’s designed in full. Shaped as a perfectly symmetrical, lugless pebble in green-coated steel, its 37.5mm case is topped by a domed sapphire mirrored in the caseback, with white hands cut as an apple’s stem and leaf. Powered by a Ronda quartz and limited to 9,999 pieces, it’s around A$300, proof that great design doesn’t have to be expensive. @mrshepherdson bought one, and has the full story on hodinkee.com.au 🍏 by @mrshepherdson

This week on Bring A Loupe - The Aussie Edit, @mrshepherdson has tracked down a handful of vintage watches that each offer something completely different. There’s a classic Heuer Skipper chronograph from the late ‘70s, a very attractive Jaeger-LeCoultre with a lapis ring dial, and one of the unsung heroes of the Omega back-catalogue - a two-tone Seamaster Polaris in titanium and gold. Head to hodinkee.com.au for the full story. by @mrshepherdson

Depop and Etsy are great for vintage clothes, and have hundreds of “vintage watch” listings - but @mrshepherdson recommends you avoid both platforms when looking for your next vintage watch 😬 by @mrshepherdson

There’s a long history of fashion brands collaborating with car brands on fun special editions that you and I could get behind the wheel of.

In 2026, it feels like every day there’s a new ‘Brand x Brand’ collaboration announced, but in the car world it’s nothing new, as @mrshepherdson explains 🚗 by @mrshepherdson

It's fair to say that the @balticwatches x @spaceonewatches Seconde Majeure has been one of the most memorable indie collabs in recent memory, riding the line between concept watch and entry-level haute horlogerie with proper Gallic flair, offering jump hour thrills, neo-futuristic design and elevated finishing at an approachable price.

On a recent visit to Paris, @mrshepherdson swung past Baltic’s new digs to check out both versions of it in person - check out his hands-on review at hodinkee.com.au 🇫🇷 by @mrshepherdson

The Doxa Sub300T Divingstar is a 42mm, bright yellow-dialed, highly technical steel dive watch in a world where petite, precious metal Cartiers and itty-bitty Royal Oaks currently rule the social feed and the runway. Yet it still has a magical watch full of history and arguably the perfect summer watch for literally any wrist - regardless of the size, as I dig into in my review on @joli.laide

On a recent trip to Paris I got to experience the Baltic x SpaceOne Seconde Majeure, a 38mm steel jump-hour watch that rides the line between concept watch and entry-level haute horlogerie.

In person it is extraordinary, a product of collaboration from these two very different Parisian brands that has resulted in an impressively cohesive design and unique watch that I couldn’t keep my eyes off. The production pieces will feature a few tweaks and quality of life improvements, you can learn about them in my Hands On review on @hodinkeeaustralia - the links in my bio

Thanks to @georgiajanegriffiths for the amazing first image 📸
