POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Wave of light to remember the lost babies tonight. To also remember that we must not stand still but move forward in prevention, research and care. Every pregnancy loss, whether early or late, leaves a story and an opportunity to learn.
We know early identification of maternal, placental, and nutritional factors can dramatically reduce the risk of miscarriage, preterm birth, and stillbirth — and improve outcomes in future pregnancies. May this information truly help someone Early Loss (≤13 weeks)
	•	Chromosomal causes are common, but recurrent losses (≥2) should prompt review for:
	•	Uterine abnormalities (3D ultrasound or hysteroscopy)
	•	Thyroid function and autoimmune antibodies
	•	Antiphospholipid Syndrome (APS)
	•	Progesterone 400 mg vaginally twice daily (up to 16 weeks) if bleeding in early pregnancy and ≥1 prior miscarriage (NICE NG126).

Late Loss and Stillbirth
	•	Causes often involve placental dysfunction, hypertension, or infection.
	•	Investigations: full placental pathology, maternal health review, and growth restriction screening.
	•	Implement elements of the Saving Babies’ Lives Care Bundle for monitoring fetal growth and wellbeing.

Uterine Artery Doppler & PAPP-A
	•	Low PAPP-A (<0.4 MoM) at 12–14 weeks and abnormal uterine artery Dopplers at 20–24 weeks predict impaired placentation and fetal growth restriction (FGR).
	•	NICE and RCOG recommend additional growth scans from 26–28 weeks onwards for women with these risk factors.
	•	Optimising nutrition (especially omega-3, vitamin D, choline, and collagen) supports endothelial and placental health in these cases.

Other Proven Interventions
	•	Aspirin (75–150 mg daily from 12 weeks) for women at risk of pre-eclampsia or placental dysfunction (per NICE NG133).
	•	Heparin + aspirin only in confirmed Antiphospholipid syndrome
	•	Cerclage for women with proven cervical weakness or short cervix.
	•	Prompt review for reduced fetal movements.

Why I Created the MenoThrive Journey
By Dr Karen Joash – Award-Winning Consultant in Women’s Health, Functional Medicine Expert and Positive Psychology Practitioner

For too long, menopause has been framed as a medical problem to fix—a time of decline, disruption, and difficulty. But for me, as both a doctor and a woman, it became clear that this narrow view was failing us. That’s why I created MenoThrive.

MenoThrive is more than a journal. It’s a movement—a call to reframe the menopause journey as a powerful opportunity to reset, re-evaluate, and reawaken. Menopause is not the end of anything. It’s a beginning. A season for rediscovering yourself: mind, body, and spirit.

Yes, HRT can play a helpful role—but thriving in midlife is not just about balancing hormones. It’s about rewriting the story. As a consultant in women’s health, a functional medicine expert, and a positive psychology practitioner, I’ve seen how transformative this stage can be when we empower ourselves with knowledge, nourish our bodies, and reconnect with purpose.

MenoThrive is here to guide women through this transition—supporting physical wellbeing, emotional resilience, and spiritual alignment—so that we don’t just survive menopause, we thrive through it.

Because your next chapter is not about loss. It’s about becoming the most powerful version of you. We have the wonderful @the_health_creator with unique nuggets on hormone and foods who also has a wonderful happy hormone programme. We will also be talking about the O capsule for perimenopause from @purervita

👉 Join the free MenoThrive webinar this September to discover how you can thrive through menopause, naturally and holistically: spaces are limited

This week’s publication of the Baroness Amos Review is a stark reminder that, despite years of scrutiny, too many women and families continue to experience unequal maternity care.

The review identifies persistent challenges across maternity services, including women not being listened to, inequalities in care and outcomes and a gap between how care is intended to be delivered and how it’s experienced by families.

These are themes we explore in the latest episode of Maternity Care Today.

Hosted by @drnighatarif, this episode brings together @mskarenjoash and Anne Kavanagh to discuss why inequalities in maternity care continue to persist. From whether concerns are heard and acted on, to the impact of communication, and wider social determinants of health, the conversation focuses on the practical changes needed to create more consistent care.

The air your child breathes right now is shaping their health, their development, their future.

Too many Black children are growing up exposed to harmful air pollution during the most critical years of their lives. Years that shape everything from how they learn, to how they grow, to the opportunities they’ll have. That has to change.

Join us for the Black Child Clean Air Conference 2026, our 3rd annual event exploring the impact of air pollution on early childhood development and what we can do about it. Proudly sponsored by @bell_ribeiroaddy

This is a unique opportunity to hear from leading experts in health, environment, and early years, while gaining practical insight into how air pollution affects development, behaviour, and long-term outcomes for children.

You’ll also learn how you can play a role in shaping change, from supporting families and influencing practice, to contributing to wider advocacy for clean air and health equity.

Peace from Australia as we remember to celebrate international women. This is a banner to commemorate the peace convention in The Hague which went across the world from Brisbane. I continue to pray for peace in our world and through this it’s important that women stand united as we are often the ones who come to most harm. This year remember to give peace through conversations, intention and collaboration and may this lead to a gain of peace across the world. #iwd2026 #givetogain by @mskarenjoash
