Happy Birthday to my Wonderful Husband!!! To say you are sent from heaven is an understatement! It brings me so much joy to get the chance to celebrate you and all your glory! Husband, father, partner, teacher and friend. You make my heart smile in every way. Okay so about this surprise— to do this right, I knew I was going to have to bring all your favorite things together and that’s exactly what this celebration embodied: great music, soul warming food, drinks poured up right, incredible vibes, and our beautiful community of loved ones on the dance floor ALL NIGHT! Every day with you is a celebration baby. Cheers to the next 50! May all your days be blessed and filled with celebration. I LOVE YOU!!! 🤎 taken in Washington D. C. by @msmishagabi

Jason Arday, the youngest Black Professor in the University of Cambridge’s history, died amidst a racist smear campaign accusing him of plagiarism. The claims were dismissed, but the media fueled the narrative anyway, leading to his demise.

This is not an isolated incident. Within our Black scholarly community, we are witnessing an uptick in baseless attacks on Black academics by white supremacist actors. When Black academics committed to research and scholarship aimed at bursting open the seams of racist systems find themselves under media pressure, the institutions they serve (the same ones who demand so much of them) often go silent, leaving them without the cover and protection they need.

It’s similar to the attacks we see on our movements, where challenges that carry no social, ethical, or legal weight, wage PR campaigns that swarm our leaders and communities with noise they simply can’t combat.

At Mancala Collective, we envision a world where Black scholars and movements are protected and their voices are heard.

Justice for Jason Arday.

GRWM as I headed to celebrate one of my clients on one of the biggest days of her life. 🤍

Building Mancala Collective has never been just about communications—it’s about relationships. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of partnering with scholars, movement leaders, nonprofits, and organizations whose work is changing communities. Somewhere along the way, many of those clients became friends.

Attending this wedding reminded me why I started this work in the first place: to build a communications firm that understands the heart behind mission-driven work and walks alongside the people leading it.

I’m incredibly grateful for every story we’ve been trusted to tell—and for moments like these that remind me this work is about so much more than campaigns.

Congratulations to a truly brilliant and deserving couple. 💛

This Fourth of July, we’re proud to celebrate leaders who help shape important conversations.

Our client, Professor Justin Hansford, joined Democracy Now! to share his perspective as our nation marks 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

When political historian Deondra Rose, Ph.D. was ready to bring her book — The Power of Black Excellence: HBCUs and the Fight for American Democracy — to broader audiences, she needed a communications strategy that matched the depth of her research. 📚✊🏾
We partnered with Dr. Rose to take her scholarship from the academy to the public — through a multi-city book tour, media outreach, and a website redesign that matched the depth of her work.
Link in bio for the full case study. 🔗

It’s my first Mother’s Day as Jules’ mama so I’m sharing my absolute favorite video from the countdown to my precious boy’s birthday. He came like 2 days after this. By this point I was tiiiied, swollen, had carpal tunnel and some mo’ but I was super committed to taking care of myself to the very last moment so baby could have the best possible entrance to the world that I could give him. As a new mom, I don’t claim to have any answers, but the one thing I am affirmed in is that the mamas and mama-adjacent caretakers deserve our full support and attention. We should care more about what they experience and what they need and we should be advocating for them all the time! Enjoy our foolery. Happy Mother’s Day to all! 💚 by @msmishagabi
