Welcome to the Hive. I’m Meryem, founder of MtlHive, an immigrant and daughter of immigrants who moved here in 2009 with nothing but resilience and big dreams.

I know what it’s like to start from the bottom. I never graduated from university, and I wanted to prove that diplomas are not the only way to climb the corporate ladder and I did. In just seven years, I went from earning barely above minimum wage to making six figures and being trusted with millions of dollars in products as a category manager. But my biggest climb was not corporate. It was personal.

Last year, on October 31, I lost a job where I was delivering beautiful results and receiving great feedback, simply for being a woman with a voice. So I decided to take full ownership of my future. I switched careers to real estate and began building a new chapter on my own terms. My goal is financial freedom and to bring more people, especially women, into it with me.

I have walked away from toxic cycles, built a loving partnership, overcome anorexia, quit smoking, and traded nights out for nights in that truly recharge me. I became the fittest and most confident version of myself, the kind of woman who takes care of her body, mind, and energy as a non negotiable priority.

I have faced rejection and discrimination. I have worked in male dominated industries where I was expected to shrink to fit in, and I chose instead to take up space and lead.

That is why MtlHive exists. It is a community where women never feel the need to make themselves small to belong. Here, we expand the space together.

Beyond the Label

Lately, while listening to Nonviolent Communication, I’ve been thinking about how quickly we label people.

Difficult.
Sensitive.
Arrogant.
Cold.
Too much.

We see one reaction, one moment, one chapter of someone’s life, and turn it into an identity.

And I think of Marilyn Monroe.

The world knew her as the blonde, the bombshell, the sex symbol.

But behind the label was a woman with dreams, fears, intelligence, ambition and a story most people never truly took the time to understand.

Maybe that’s what we forget about each other.

We see behaviour, but we don’t always see the need behind it.

Nonviolent Communication has been reminding me to pause before judging and become curious instead.

Not to excuse harmful behaviour.
Not to abandon boundaries.

But to remember that people are always more complex than the labels we give them.

And perhaps this is part of what I want MtlHive to be:

A place where we look beyond the image.

Beyond the success.
Beyond the beauty.
Beyond the confidence.
Beyond the label.

And simply ask:

Who is the woman in front of me, really?

Last Saturday, I attended a Montreal Hive brunch, and I absolutely loved it. 💛 @mtlhive

I decided it was time to take Inner Home into the world, so I brought a few copies with me—and had the pleasure of meeting some wonderful women.

Our conversations moved from nutrition to how we perceive reality and how changing our perspective can change our experience. I met a jeweler, a holistic coach, and other women whose stories I truly enjoyed hearing.

I also had the chance to chat with @meryem.abed the lovely woman behind this community, who brings women together every month.

What stayed with me most was the feeling of connecting through the heart: listening, sharing, and supporting one another.

Your presence, your stories, your wisdom, and the pieces of yourselves you shared with the room were beyond words.

At MtlHive, we believe women can show up as their whole selves and leave a little stronger, because we never leave empty-handed. We carry a piece of one another with us: her resilience, her courage, her determination, her strength, but also her softness, her femininity, and her heart.

We don’t have to choose between being strong and fragile, brave and scared, excited and anxious.

We can be all of it.

We can dream boldly while still having doubts. We can lead with strength while remaining soft. We can hold space for others while still finding our own way.

And somehow, together, we do it all with grace, with love, and with a little more light than we came in with. 🌻🐝
