I’m incredibly honoured to be a recipient of the prize for Creative Promise in Fashion & Culture. The @vilcekfoundation ‘s mission of recognizing the achievements of immigrants in the United States is especially prescient, and I’m so grateful to @rick.kinsel and the entire foundation team for their dedication to this cause for the past 25 years. Thank you for hosting this beautiful and thoughtful ceremony. It was wonderful celebrating with family, friends and all the prizewinners, whose work I am so inspired by. A highlight of my collaboration with @ianbradleyperrin and @posterhousenyc was yesterday evening’s “Care in Creative Industries: Fashion and Design Respond to AIDS.” We were honored to host @stevenkolb President and CEO of @cfda who worked on the early @bartschland Love Balls at @diffanational, and @mr_stan_herman, fashion designer, former president of @cfda , early board member of @gmhc and organizer of many early AIDS fundraisers. It was a poignant and memorable discussion and I was thrilled to share it with colleagues, friends and family 💗💗💗. The recording is now available on the @posterhousenyc YouTube page, big thanks to the Poster House team for organizing.

This August, in honor of our exhibition Love & Fury: New York’s Fight Against AIDS, we’re thrilled to host fashion legends Stan Herman and Steven Kolb for a very special conversation about how the fashion, design, and arts industries came together to respond to AIDS at the height of the crisis.

Herman and Kolb will join Love & Fury curator Ian Bradley-Perrin and fashion historian Natalie Nudell to share firsthand knowledge of these community efforts, from “7th on Sale” to Susanne Bartsch’s Love Balls.

Today marks 45 years since the Centers for Disease Control reported the first incidences of what we know as HIV/AIDS. June 5 is now HIV Long Term Survivor’s Awareness Day, which is possible due to the activism and community support for research and medical interventions.

Congratulations to the @metcostumeinstitute team! “Costume Art” is a compelling exhibition about how the body (in all forms) animates and activates fashion, and enables it to transcend into an art form and a representation of human culture. Shaped by her immigrant upbringing and a pivotal mentorship, Natalie Nudell @natalien__ is redefining how we understand the history of fashion in the United States. 👗✨

The 2026 Vilcek Prize for Creative Promise in Fashion & Culture winner was first given access to the “Fashion Calendar” archive by Ruth Finley in 2014 after the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) acquired the publication. 📕📗📘

Now a professor at @fitnyc, Natalie has leveraged Finley’s donated archive of 30,000 Fashion Calendar pages, transforming it into the Fashion Calendar Research Database @fcrd_fit. This open-source tool, as she puts it, “helps reveal and quantify the presence and impact of women, immigrants, and many different communities who have shaped the [fashion] industry.”
