Started the month in an archive in Carbondale, Illinois. Not exactly the most glamorous destination, but the reason I was there will (hopefully) make sense in a future publication. Other highlights: celebrating ten years with Jake. Soul Summit with @shivanidevnani. Another perfect week on Fishers Island. A wonderful event at @posterhousenyc with @chicava and @_espranzahumphrey. Several nights out with @levicomte and @natalien__. Now we’re officially in the dog days of summer and the countdown to the all semester 😬

This August, in honor of our exhibition Love & Fury: New York’s Fight Against AIDS, we’re thrilled to host fashion legends Stan Herman and Steven Kolb for a very special conversation about how the fashion, design, and arts industries came together to respond to AIDS at the height of the crisis.

Herman and Kolb will join Love & Fury curator Ian Bradley-Perrin and fashion historian Natalie Nudell to share firsthand knowledge of these community efforts, from “7th on Sale” to Susanne Bartsch’s Love Balls.

20 years of celebrating immigrant excellence, and we’re still inspired every time.

For nearly two decades, we’ve had the privilege of partnering with the @vilcekfoundation on the #vilcekprize. An annual celebration of immigrant excellence in science, medicine, the arts, and culture.

The Foundation’s mission feels more relevant with every passing year, shining a light on the extraordinary contributions immigrants make to American society. This year’s laureates and Creative Promise recipients are a powerful reminder of what’s possible when talent, creativity, and opportunity come together.

Inspired by the Vilcek Prize itself, we created a transparent cube that rotates, spins, and evolves. The dynamic cube represents the adaptability, curiosity, and creativity shared by this year’s honorees—a blank canvas transformed by groundbreaking ideas. Contrasting the cube’s geometric structure, fluid gradients introduce a more organic and human element, reflecting the individuality behind every achievement. This year’s neon yellow and gray palette was designed to capture attention while creating a vibrant backdrop for the people and stories being celebrated.

From the stage graphics to the name badges and award presentation, every detail was designed to keep the focus where it belongs: on the remarkable people being honored.

We’re grateful for a partnership that has challenged us for nearly two decades to create work that is both meaningful and beautiful.

Yesterday, Sally received her Hebrew name surrounded by friends and family ❤️. We went a little unconventional (surprise, surprise) and named her Dayenu. Yes! Like the song everyone loves to sing during Passover. It means, “it would have been enough.” A sentiment about gratitude and appreciating those around you.

Our @rabbigeorgettek, who married Adam and I in 2018, made the ceremony so sentimental and special. It felt like a full circle moment. We ended the night at @glasserienyc ❤️ because obviously! L’Chaim!!

May was, for lack of a better word, random. I went on national television, sat across from Al Sharpton, and talked about the Met Gala. I went to a lot of exhibition openings, spent a lot of time in museums, looked at a lot of fashion, and even made some of my own.

I was honored to have contributed in an advisory capacity to the Vilcek Foundation @vilcekfoundation for their fashion and culture prizes, which were recently awarded. This was the first time the Vilcek Foundation instituted prizes specifically for fashion and culture, alongside those in fashion design.

It was particularly meaningful to me, as I have long argued that fashion should be understood as being on par with other aspects of visual and material culture as an influential part of culture as opposed to simply reflecting what gets made elsewhere. In line with the foundation’s mission, the prizes were reserved for immigrants, which of course made it even more significant to me as an immigrant to the US, especially considering the increasingly xenophobic and anti-immigration climate.

It was such a pleasure to celebrate the prize winners last week: Tanya Meléndez-Escalante, @tanya.melendez.fashion. Diego Bendezu @diegobendezu Jalan and Jibril Durimel @durimel and Natalie Nudell @natalien__ Thank you to the jury, the staff of the Vilcek Foundation and in particular its indefatigable president Rick Kinsel @rick.kinsel.
