“And above all these, put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony.” - Colossians 3:14

Colin, my beloved and now my betrothed, our engagement was a moment of perfect harmony. Your poem of a proposal and the significance of every engraved detail on the ring… the family diamond from the 1940s, the decade of music which inspired the first song we wrote together, the golden ratio, the beaded edges, the seven diamonds for the seventh ratio of the Fibonacci sequence and God’s number of completion and perfection, the stained glass box and composition which never fails to dew my eyes… they are all written as a song on my soul.

And to think, there was a time I thought I could never be loved — let alone, known — like so by someone. I am eternally grateful to you and God that He has put upon us love, caused us to collide, and bound us to be better together, best friends forever. ⋆.˚꩜。⋆.

2026 DISQUIET International Literary Program ✎

Muito, muito, muito obrigada to the DISQUIET International Literary Program for welcoming me to learn through workshops, readings, inspiring Fado Museums and performances, open mics, and so on in Lisbon, Portugal with open arms of shared sincerity and saudade.

Thank you to Jeff Parker, Scott Laughlin, Laura Breitenbeck, and every soul at DISQUIET and the Centro Nacional de Cultura for their care; also, to Desiree Bailey and Stefan Bindley-Taylor for a reverent poetry workshop, as well as the poets in it who were poems themselves, and selfless to lend their ears and voices for the sake of my poetry; of course, to Terri Witek, without whom I would never have wandered into the “well-ghosted” Fernando Pessoa Game workshop room, learned to listen to their lines and the transfigurations of writing; to the @stetsonhonors program, for the generous scholarship which made it possible to study abroad; and, lastly, to Colin and my family, who were my home amidst the newness of Portugal, and to God, who repeatedly silenced me into song with His beauty… Does He feel saudade for us, for all creation? 𓆝 𓆟 𓆞 𓆝 𓆟

Bem, Portugal and her people survived through literature. This program reminded me that literature is a form of survival. Mas, I must now write rather than solely reminisce. Eu te amo, DISQUIET! taken in Lisboa, Portugal by @nataliereesemccoy

‘Tis springtime in New York City, the bees are buzzing, the early modern songs are echoing, and I am reading still. ݁♬⋆.˚𝄞

I am resoundingly grateful for Stetson University’s support through the SURE Grant to continue my research of Song “XXII” or “The sad Nymph, Echo” from NYPL Drexel Ms. 4175, “Anne Twice, Her Booke” or “Songs Vnto the Lute and Viol,” at the New York Public Library this past semester. Thank you, especially, to my faculty advisor, Dr. Joel Davis, and the rest of the SU English Department, Dr. Katie Larson at the University of Toronto, the librarians and musicologist Bob Kosovsky at the NYPL for the Performing Arts, and, of course, my “research assistant” (father) for each inspiring my research with insight and erudite reading material.

Now, nothing but prayers to write, embody, and edit and publish both… taken in New York Public Library Research by @nataliereesemccoy

“The lunatic, the lover and the poet
Are of imagination all compact.
One sees more devils than vast hell can hold:
That is the madman. The lover, all as frantic,
Sees Helen’s beauty in a brow of Egypt.
The poet’s eye, in a fine frenzy rolling,
Doth glance from heaven to Earth, from Earth to heaven,
And as imagination bodies forth
The forms of things unknown, the poet’s pen
Turns them to shapes and gives to airy nothing
A local habitation and a name.”
(Shakespeare, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, 5. 2. 7-18)

This past school year, I began studying NYPL Drexel Ms. 4175, “Anne Twice, Her Booke” or “Songs Vnto the Lute and Viol,” a women’s commonplace manuscript of Early Modern English poetry and song which has captivated scholars for quite some time. My research focuses on Song “XXII” or “The sad Nymph, Echo” and creating the first accurate modern transcription of the text and music, as well as the first video and audio recording of it performed as it might have been in the 1620s. The song’s poet and composer is unknown, save for a hum that Anne Twice, the manuscript’s owner, might have written and performed it herself. Like Echo, Twice has a name but no local habitation; as a lunatic, lover, and poet, I must help her song survive. ݁♬⋆.˚𝄞

Hello, Stetson University Hatters!

In collaboration with @touchstonelitart, @hatternetwork, and the Edmunds Initiative, I will host the second annual Poetry in Palm Court Friday, April 24th, from 11:30am to 1:30pm in Palm Court (... of course).

Be whimsical and peruse the 2026 edition of Touchstone Literary Arts Journal, write blackout poetry, put a custom typewriter poem in your pocket (written by little old me), listen to some jazz music, and celebrate poetic literacy in Palm Court in honor of National Jazz and Poetry Month. Cultural credit (and perhaps some refreshments) provided!

Thank you to all the friends of truth and beauty helping me host this event again. My dear Hatters, I pray to see you there! :) taken in Stetson Palm Court by @nataliereesemccoy

We were so inspired by our fellow songwriters, new friends, and especially those we shared the stage with, @courthoang and @lauren.a.woodall.

Thank you to @willthompsonmusic and your rockstar family for giving us this opportunity and to your band for that mind-blowing jam session.

Oh what a summer, oh what a Savior. 🏕️

How do you help hundreds of little children and their hundreds of hearts, minds, and souls to learn that He hears them sing the lyrics they “sometimes write for the Lord on the piano at home,” that He smiles as they catch the minnows He created swimming upstream, that He is their best friend who both holds their hands and goes before them while they face school bullies, and that everything that has breath— family, friends, neighbors, and enemies alike— was created to praise His name?

I suppose you sing a new song (higher, higher 🎶).

And seek Him in the sunshowers and the shaving foam and the sidewalk chalk.

And try to be half as silly of a goose as your fellow bandmates, staffers, and campers are. 🪿

And let the Holy Spirit do the rest.

Thank you, CentriKid Camps 2025!!!

“‘And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength!’ The second is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.” - Mark 12:30-31 taken in CentriKid Camps by @nataliereesemccoy

“Pleasant words are as a honeycomb, sweetness to the soul…” - Proverbs 16:21 🐝 🎶

Praise the Lord for finishing my first year of college at Stetson University. I have learned enormously. This past semester, I became enamored by the musicality of William Shakespeare’s language and, especially, the inclusion of music in his plays. An impressive amount of vocal and instrumental music, as well as corresponding stage suggesting, for instance, that a soliloquy is sung rather than spoken, is laden every few lines. It is speculated that Shakespeare summoned a small symphony orchestra to the Globe Theatre to set or underscore a scene or his lyrics and, dishearteningly, most of these original compositions remain lost to literary history…

As an ode to the research I conducted this past semester, I wrote, recorded and produced a short song and lyric video (thank you, Colin, for your help) using the lyrics of Ariel’s song, “Where the Bee Sucks,” from Act Five, Scene One, lines ninety-eight through one-hundred and six of The Tempest. With the guitar as a modern-day lute, the high strings of the guitar trilling like a cittern, and the keyboard singing through a harpsichord preset, I emulated the instruments of the Shakespearean-era Globe Theatre’s small symphony orchestra. As for the vocal melody and its accompanying soprano and alto harmonies, I divided the lyrics into their elementary trochees and dactyls per measure and repeated the last two lines for a musically satisfying refrain. Yap, yap, yap.

This was a particularly special project, as I recall playing Ariel in a silly production of The Tempest during elementary school, writing and performing my very first song to these very same lyrics. Do enjoy! 📝 taken in Stetson University by @nataliereesemccoy

2025 College Media Association Spring National College Media Convention - ProCon 25!!! 📚🐛 ➡️ 🍎🐛

It was an honor to represent Hatter Network branches Touchstone, Stetson University’s literary and arts journal, and the Reporter, Florida’s oldest collegiate publication and Stetson University’s feature magazine, as they each received erudite critiques and Apple Awards for Best Magazine at ProCon 25! Thank you to everyone from Hatter Network who helped this little bookworm munch her way to the Big Apple, especially Mrs. Belk, Ali, Sara, and Sheridan. I could not be more grateful for the opportunity to learn as a staff member, writer, and forthcoming web editor of Hatter Network’s publications.

Colin, Breanna, and Nico, I dare not imagine learning, standing in awe of oodles of books, musing over theology at midnight, studying the margins of spreads in news and literary magazines, or being sheepishly told we “look like we’d appreciate LEGO rats” with anyone else. Let’s keep publishing good news and peace together. 📝
