This past weekend we hosted South Side Cycles first weekend away.

We camped.
We cycled.
We shared meals.
We slowed down enough to really connect.

But it was more than that.

It was about raising awareness for Lighthouse Academy - an ECD centre and primary school in Villiersdorp providing quality education for children from financially disadvantaged backgrounds.

We pitched our tents on the school fields and rolled out mattresses in classrooms.
We toured the campus.
We sat with the founders.
We listened to the story behind the vision.

And we saw first-hand the work being done every day to build something steady and hopeful for the next generation.

It was powerful to see one community show up for another.

To realise that bicycles can be more than bikes.
They can be bridges.
They can be conversation starters.
They can be small acts of momentum that ripple outward.

This was only the beginning.

Three weeks off the bike thanks to travelling and then getting sick… and wow, I am VERY ready to feel fit again 🫠

I’m excited to get back into proper training, challenge myself and rebuild my fitness. But I also know that trying to make up for three weeks in three days isn’t going to get me there any faster.

So I’m training with intention, building the load back up and giving my body a chance to catch up with my motivation. No guilt over the time off, no panic over my Strava numbers and no punishment sessions for enjoying my holiday.

The fitness will come back. I’m ready to work for it buuut I’m also very grateful to be healthy and back on my bike again 🫶🏼🚴🏼‍♀️ by @natsrosee

Back from Japan, straight into race-week mode 🇯🇵🚲 Apparently, I unpacked my suitcase and immediately forgot how to have a quiet weekend.

After a bit of time off and a little stint of being sick, we’re heading to Lourensford for the OTTO1890 Weekend Warrior this weekend for our first race back. The Otto1890 Weekend warrior races will always hold a special place for me as the last one in Grabouw was my first ever MTB race!! The last one in Grabouw was such a jol, so I’m VERY excited for round 2 🙂‍↔️🙂‍↔️

Are the legs ready? Unclear.

Am I excited? Very.

Are we going anyway? Obviously. 😂

Weekend-warrior mode: activated 😏

Japan, I’d get back on a plane for these alone🇯🇵🥹✈️

🌻 Sunflower fields · Furano
The biggest sunflower field I’ve ever seen. Yellow as far as I could see and me wanting to take approximately 700 photos 😭

🩵 Shirogane Blue Pond · Biei, Hokkaido
Water so blue it genuinely doesn’t look real. Tiny mineral particles scatter the sunlight to create that dreamy colour. No filter needed.

♨️ Fukiage Open-Air Onsen · Kamifurano, Hokkaido
A wild hot spring tucked into the forest on the slopes of Mount Tokachi, with naturally heated water flowing from the mountainside. Nature’s hot tub and honestly… obsessed 🤭

⛩️ Fushimi Inari Taisha · Kyoto
Thousands of red torii gates winding up a forested mountain, including the famous Senbon Torii, or “thousand gates”. One of those places that’s even better in real life.

🎋 Arashiyama Bamboo Grove · Kyoto
Towering bamboo lining the path and making you feel tiny in the best way. Spent this entire walk looking up 🥹

🏔️ Happo Pond (Happo-ike) · Hakuba
A little alpine pond that reflects the Northern Japanese Alps like a mirror when the water is calm. As if one mountain view wasn’t already enough 🫶🏼
