It’s your turn.

Expressing Grace Volume One is done. And the room has spoken… we’re not finished.

If you have a testimony that needs to be told, we want to hear it.

It doesn’t have to be polished. It just needs to have God’s fingerprints all over it even if you’re still in the middle of it.

Here’s what we’re looking for:

A first-person written testimony of God’s grace in your life. Between 750 and 800 words. Something you can read aloud in 6 to 8 minutes. It has to be true and it has to be yours.

If you’re selected you will be contacted directly with next steps.

Expressing Grace is a curated experience. Every voice is handpicked. Every testimony chosen with intention to build faith, encourage spirits, and remind a room full of people that we still serve a healing, miracle-working God.

If you think that voice might be yours, please submit.

Link in bio to submit your testimony.

I want to make something really clear to anyone who’s been thinking about shsting but hasn’t yet:

you do not have to be a writer.
You don’t have to be a poet, or an orator, or a performer, or someone who’s ever done anything like this before.

You just have to be somebody who has something to say about their God.

If sitting down to write feels like the hard part, skip it. Talk it out instead… open your Notes app and speak it, or record a voice memo like you’re just telling a friend what happened.

Run it through a transcription app or ask AI to clean up the text.

Then go back through what’s there and edit it until it sounds like you again, until it’s back in your own words and your own voice. That’s it. That’s the whole process.

The story matters more than how it’s written down.

I’d rather have your true, unpolished testimony than a beautifully written one that isn’t really yours. Submissions close July 26th— link in bio.

I can't wait to hear what God has done for you…Please remind me, just how great he isā€¦šŸ˜Œ

The Draft is book one of a new series. A high stakes survival story set in the remains of Los Angeles. Monica Harris steps off an elevator with her son and three strangers and enters a world she doesn’t recognize. No time for questions. Just survival.

I haven’t read it yet. But I’m already sold.

And can we talk about the marketing for a second? A survival kit. A book trailer. A full immersive experience before you even open the first page.

Nail the Creator has completely changed the way I think about what book marketing can be. Go find her. Watch the trailer. You’ll understand.

Book review is coming. Stay close. šŸ‘€šŸ¤

Welcome to my summer vibes… bookish edition.

My goal this summer, feel the sun on my skin, nurture my passions and do things for me. My kids are chillin this summer so that means mommy is… say it with me… OUTSIDE 😜 . In my own little nerdy way.

Coming up is the

Magazine Launch with @hergrruv
Women’s Tea at Power Apostolic Church (I’m moderating the panel)
Mara Brock Akil book signing with @reparations.club
SWABFT Retreat and Cruise in August…

I mean let’s go! Where else should I show up? Give me all things bookish, faith based, community building, or writing related…

I just might pull up. Ayyyy šŸ’ƒšŸ½šŸ˜‚

Made it to Bound & Lettered at Our House on 48th Street, and it did not disappoint. šŸ“šāœØ

I had the best time. It was my first time there, and honestly, I’ve been wanting to visit for a long time. I’m so glad to finally make it because the events they curate always look incredible.

If you don’t know about Our House on 48th Street, you are truly missing out. It’s more than a space—it’s a co-working space, an event space, and a true community space.

Huge shoutout to @destinymuse for creating something so special. She has built an amazing hub that brings people, art, books, and community together in such an intentional way.

And this was only the beginning for us. Bound & Lettered was our first event there, but it definitely won’t be our last.

Shoutout to all of the authors who participated (I’ll be tagging everyone)! šŸ“–šŸ–Šļø

@iamnellthecreator
@sweettiffys
@kyradavislurie
@heyyy_itsmara
@authorangelashante
@philallenjrig
@yourfairysquadmother

We also bought way more books than we planned to šŸ˜‚. My sister and I each left with three books, and Lori left with two. Needless to say, we were very happy readers.

Listen if you aren’t already, start following Our House on 48th Street and checking out their curated events for the community. And if you’re looking for a co-working space with an incredible vibe and a strong sense of community, add this place to your list.

Bound & Lettered was such a beautiful reminder that there are amazing things happening right here in our city. šŸ–¤āœØ

By the end of the night…people were on their faces.

Praising.
Praying.
Crying.
Breaking through.

And that’s exactly what Expressing Grace was built for.

Not a concert, a conference or a performance.

But a reminder.

A reminder that we still serve a miracle-working God. That your season has an end. That somebody else was where you are, and God showed up anyway.

Seven handpicked voices. Seven testimonies chosen with intention to build your faith, encourage your spirit, and remind you of who God is and what He’s still capable of.

And the room received every single word.

To the cast … thank you for trusting me with your stories. For saying yes and for standing at that microphone and telling the truth. You have no idea what God did through you on June 13th.

To our vendors, thank you for helping us create an experience worth remembering.
@spokeandsip Ā· @elvia_d Ā· @simslibrary ofpoetry

To every family member, friend, and stranger who walked through those doors — thank you for being in the room.

People are already asking for another one.

I’m praying about it but I think there are too many people starving for this to stop here.

Every song on this playlist was chosen on purpose.

Not just for background music.

But to carry you from the moment you walk in (to the space between stories) all the way to the last word spoken on June 13th.

Music sets the atmosphere before a single word is said. And I wanted this room to feel a certain way the moment you walk through the door.

Worshipful. Warm. Ready to receive.

I put this playlist together and ended up ministering to myself in the process. God is already moving and we haven’t even gotten to the room yet.

I’m praying June 13th is going to be everything it’s supposed to be.

A lot of people are telling testimony without calling it that.

They’re describing God’s work without giving Him the credit.

The shift in mindset. The way that was made out of no way. The thing that should have broken you, and didn’t. The coincidence that was too specific to be a coincidence. The moment everything changed and you still can’t fully explain how.

That’s not inspiration.
That’s not the universe.
That’s not manifestation.

That’s God.

And that’s a testimony.

Expressing Grace is the room where we call it what it actually is, and give credit to the One who deserves it.

I’ve grown here.
Performed here.
Programmed here.
And on June 13th … I’m bringing Expressing Grace here.

What is Expressing Grace?

Well it’s not quite testimony service… not quite The Moth and … not quite a poetry reading. But if all three had a baby šŸ‘¼ that’s Expressing Grace.

A curated live experience where seven personally selected voices will stand at a microphone and read their real stories or poetry of God’s grace out loud before a live audience.

When and where

Saturday June 13th
Doors 4:30 PM
Show 5:00 PM

Sims Library of Poetry Ā· 2702 W Florence Ave Ā· Los Angeles

Seating is limited, don’t wait.

Drum roll please 🄁

The venue for Expressing Grace is…

Sims Library of Poetry (@simslibraryofpoetry)

If you don’t know Sims…let me introduce you to one of the most special spaces in Los Angeles.

The first Black-owned poetry library in the state of California, home to over 10,000 books of poetry, located right in the heart of South Los Angeles. Founded by USC alumnus Hiram Sims, who started lending poetry books to his students out of a suitcase, and what began as 80 books in a suitcase became a full library, a community, and a movement.

On the front of the building it reads ā€œPoetry lives hereā€.

And on June 13th, testimony will too.

This space has poured into me. Some of the most meaningful relationships I’ve built in this city started inside these walls. And I could not be more honored to bring Expressing Grace here.

Because what is testimony if not the most honest poem you’ve ever lived?

Expressing Grace is a live testimony gathering where 7 people will stand at a microphone in this exact room and share real stories of God’s grace out loud before a live audience.

40 seats. Seven Voices. One God.

When it’s full, it’s full šŸ’•.
