In this workshop, we’ll dive into some of the features and effects in @bitwig Studio that make it unique, and give you a chance to try them out and get some guided assistance. We’ll explore some different approaches to music making that the clever design of Bitwig allows. Let me know what you want to learn!
Whether or not you end up using Bitwig in the future is perhaps less important than expanding your own practice with some new ideas and directions in music production.
What this workshop will _not_ be is a class in how to use a DAW, or step by step in music production. It is assumed that you are already working with a DAW and perhaps an audio interface and MIDI controller. If you work with external or modular synths, all the better! You don’t have to be a professional or have released a bunch of tracks, but should be curious and motivated to expand your practice. Thanks to @wearenovation for controller support, @adam_audio for sound support, @tiptopaudiofficial and @buchlausa for synth support, and of course Bitwig for the 8-Track licenses. IRL in the Dogpatch in SF.

Link in bio! In this workshop, we’ll go dive into many of the features and effects in Bitwig Studio that make it unique, and give you a chance to try them out and get some guided assistance. We’ll explore different approaches to music making that the clever design of Bitwig allows. Whether or not you end up using Bitwig in the future is perhaps less important than expanding your own practice with some new ideas and thoughts about music production. You will come away with a license for Bitwig 8-Track that lets you explore some of these concepts at home. If you work with external and/or modular synths, all the better! You don’t have to be a professional or have released a bunch of tracks, but should be curious and motivated to expand your practice.
What this workshop will not be is a class in how to use a DAW, or step by step in music production. It is not genre specific, but most examples will lean towards something electronic. It is assumed that you are already working with a DAW and perhaps an audio interface and MIDI controller.

The blue shelf has been reconfigured with @bitwig, an interface, and a couple fun synths. Fits nicely in a carry on and at the @column_sj fishbowl! I can’t believe how much I can throw at this steam deck! (As to avoid having to work on it much, I config on my Mac, and sync using #nextcloud)

Six editions later, we return to a place where nature, animals, people, and electronic sound can exist together for one afternoon.

Vol.6 marks the first anniversary of the series — not as an ending, but as the beginning of its next chapter.

Our third anniversary just got even better! We’ll have a unique wine on tap with a nominal and familar connection to electronic music: @analogwineco. I met Haley Smith many years ago when I had an industry dinner with her parents and some musicians, back when I was working with Livid Instruments. Haley’s dad Dave Smith founded Sequential Circuits (a company housed in San Jose for a time), helped invent MIDI, and gave birth to a technological shift, merging analog sound with digital control. I recently found out about her wine-making, and knew this had to come full circle. So come enjoy some Analog Wine, learn about her process, and pair it with some analog (and digital) sounds and help Column make another fun trip around the sun! by @nborus

We started Column @Goodkarmasj becuase Bob had a space, liked the idea, and we wanted a place for live electronic music in our own downtown. It’s now been three years, and our gradual carving out has brought a wonderful community into full relief! Come join us on September 16 as we celebrate our three years with a variety of microsets from some of the people who have really made this special! Note that this month’s gathering is on the third Wednesday instead our usual second! #liveelectronicmusic #analogsynth #modularsynth #dawless #downtownsanjose by @nborus
