i’m back, for now, with a notebook dump (pls excuse the censoring)

@emilyhaworthbooth ‘s writing memoirs course has really helped me out of a slump with this project, with has sat under dust for well over a year now. i highly recommend it and her other courses (thank uuu).

still got a lot going on atm, and memoir comics are helping now more than ever. by @nellyrigg_

I had a burst of motivation to draw this morning at 2am, and had to seize the moment. Part sport-study, part character exploration.
When inspiration strikes, I have to get it down asap- unfortunately, I was limited to what I had to hand as I’m travelling. Hence the coffee mug tripod. And the hotel will be pleased to know that not a single ink spillage was made 👍🏻.
[part of the “STAN” project- more updates to come soon…]

The last piece of work from term 1 of the oddy: some dip pen studies of ‘Ugetsu’ (1953), dir. K. Mizoguchi. Drawing from Film class.

The Spring Term has been intense, tiring, but so much fun. I’ve met lots of brilliant artists, who I’ve learnt from as much as the lessons themselves. Looking forward to a bit of a break before cracking on with two biographical comic projects, and an animated film. 🎬 ⏳

Materials: dip pen, @sennelier1887 Drawing Ink (bistre 449), tiny miniature brush.

“La Dolce Vita” (1960) dir. F. Fellini.
Some inking and tone practice from last week’s “Drawing from Film” class at the @royaldrawingschooloddy26
These classes have been great for learning compositional techniques to apply to my comics. Looking forward to part two next week.

it’s been a while since i documented the process.
5.5x speed, no observation, no preliminary sketch- pure chaos.

‘Der Himmel über Berlin’ has had a profound impact on me and my art since discovering it at the beginning of month.
I’ve also moved onto a new Monster flavour.
Other than that, lots of drawing, but not enough done. So, here is a small dump to prove to myself that I am, in fact, doing plenty on my postgrad.
And having fun, of course. by @nellyrigg_

A wip of a loooooong concertina comic I’m working on as part of “Drawing Graphic Narratives” on the ODDY.
Thinking of colouring digitally since the paper is too thin to handle paints…
This shows pages 1-7 of [too many to count]. I have no plan so the flow between memories could get squiffy.

My Yonkoma entry for the @mangajiman competition- “The Fish Under the Bridge”. Tried a bit of slapstick for a change, which I found worked well for a small number of panels (it was my first attempt at any manga form). Swipe to see behind the scenes.
Also, Happy New Year 🎆

(P.s. I tried swapping the order of the first two panels around for the sake of social media formatting) by @nellyrigg_
