Red ghost on the written stone- Francis A Willey -35mm film 2015 @neopictorialist Ghost began as an exploration of the human psyche and the veiled spaces between presence and absence. Rooted in early experiences of religion, ritual, scripture, prayer, and spiritual encounter, the work emerges from a lifelong dialogue between faith, instinct, and the unknown.
The project reflects on loss, mortality, and the enduring impact of those who depart yet continue to inhabit memory. It considers the subtle reverberations between the living and the dead, tracing the search for belonging, meaning, and illumination at the margins of experience.
Encounters with ghosts, angels, and spectral presences inspired a practice of collecting historical textiles and engaging with nature as a sacred landscape. Through careful attention to place, light, and material history, the work seeks moments where memory, spirit, and environment converge.
Central to the series is the shroud—a final garment symbolizing transition, humility, and return. As both object and metaphor, it reflects the fragile boundary between mortality and transcendence.
Through photography, these themes are distilled into still images that contemplate the paradox of permanence and impermanence. Nebulous and evanescent, they present fleeting visions of light and form, inviting reflection on our shared existence as beings of dust, starlight, memory, and story. by @neopictorialist

Longing of a ghost - 2006. @neopictorialist

You danced on the floorboards
They creaked as you moved above weightlessly.
I waited on the stair below the bedroom
My heart racing
Blood surging in pulsating blurs
of unstoppable breathing.

The door opened

You rushed me
I was frozen in time
Nothing was there
But an invisible
Presence before me

As I slept another hour beyond 1AM
You wrapped your arms around me
Over and over again
Like the flickering of movie film
Stuck on one scene.

You repeated this embrace
Beside the partition.

You moved beside
The antique bed
Knotted wood
A wedding gift
From ancient days
Different traditions.

Quieter spaces

You hair twirled yellow and white
In sparkling angelic lights
A shimmer of a golden dream
With river streaming
And smoke like bursting teeming
Horses
Vanishing
Through raised dust.

Your trace still bundled within my chest
You stood before me
In front of the house
And in the garden of mud
And sweet peas

And when you sang
All the children that played in puddles
Splashing

Your song was the only music
I could hear
No sound at all
Just your voice

Unfamiliar lines
Longing of a ghost

Your hand
Would touch my hand
While I write poetry
At my desk
You would stand next to me
In front of art
Displays

I would feel you
Like other countries far away
And architecture that had
History

You are the ghost
You are the spectre

You are my lost friend
You are with me again.

when we fall under the fuselage of oneself

The fragments can be shattering.
Obliterated and obscured,
The broken tree and the bent knee
The mercy in so many pieces.

They say the flightless with faith are finally
set free.

Love is the omnipotent gift
and presence to be seen,

In these endless corridors,
Upon the wings of those that believe.

there is always something lingering within hope.

In the scope
of doubt in the dark.

I’m on a help line with an angel in a dream,

I hang up the telephone after we talk and then maybe

I’ll wake and believe that this deity will no longer grieve.
