For this years Conservative Party Conference in Birmingham, I opted to save on the cost of booking a hotel and decided to commute up for the final day specifically to photograph their leader Kemi Badenoch’s keynote speech.
Having booked the cheapest available ticket to arrive on time, the 06:21 AM train from Euston, I arrived at the venue to find a noticeably quieter press room with fewer journalists and photographers than I'd seen at the Labour Conference. On the up side there were free bacon sandwiches, tea, and coffee, I headed over to the Getty Images desk at the back of the room to catch up and get low down on the lighting from the other photographers.
Before Kemi took the stage, both the shadow Home Secretary Chris Philps and shadow Chancellor Nick Timothy delivered their speeches. The venue was a theatre with several tiers of seating. There was far more room to move around with less photographers and significantly fewer officials stopping you, which made the actual job of photographing the stage infinitely easier. My plan paid off: within a couple of hours, I spotted one of my photos illustrating a Telegraph article online. Seeing it live on the site made the slow, two-and-a-half-hour journey home on a cheap ticket almost entirely worth it. by @nicola_tree

Couldn't be prouder of our Prime Minister this week. He promised he would bring back hope again, and he has. To a country, a movement and a party that has been crying out for it ❤️

Delighted to hear Wrapping up Nature, has won 2nd prize in the International Photography Awards in the Nature / Other category.

My project 'Wrapping up Nature' is officially shortlisted for the International Photography Awards in the category Nature, Other.
The series features items from the natural world, fruit, flowers, fish vegetables and wood. Each item is tightly wrapped in single use plastic packaging which will long survive its bio degradable contents. This manmade, often unnecessary plastic wraps around each organic object causing damage and accelerating its decay. This series is my response to a larger project which I co led with Photographers @helenroscoephoto and @karen_yeomans called Circle.return which was a visual correspondence of Photography and moving image from a group of women and non binary photographers.#internationalphotographyawards

Photo by the rather wonderful Nicola Tree, taken at the Royal Geographical Society where Peter Kropotkin, a 19Cth Russian physical geographer and anarchist thinker, peers at me, with what I hope is distinct air of approval!

It was really kind of @rgs_ibg - home to a million maps- to be so welcoming. Director Joe Smith took the time to show us round.

They are working on bringing the contributions and achievements of those previously obscured from history to light- mainly women and ethnic minorities.

They have a picture of Arnarulunnguaq. She was a Greenlandic woman, born in 1896, who travelled 18,000km across the Arctic and Bering Strait with the Thule expedition. Chances are you've heard of Knud Rasmussen, but I bet you didn't know about the woman who showed him the way.

This photo is part of a series of portraits taken to celebrate 40% of MPs being women.

The Royal Society of British Photographers are working with Image & Reality to bring The 40% Project together as a beautiful photobook celebrating this historic moment for women in Parliament.

There is a Kickstarter campaign. The appeal finishes at the end of July. Last time I looked they were still a couple of thousand short. Please pledge if you can, and share the campaign widely.

Every pledge and every share helps bring this important project to life.
