Some thoughts on this: At the moment I can’t afford publicity which means I also can’t be submitted for playlist curators which are usually all on Spotify anyway. That’s ok, I already took too much time between releases and I need to push myself to be less precious about future releases in hopes of putting more out more often. I have so much material and I don’t want all of it to sit around for too long. Also I know the songs might get lost in the ocean of playlists that have some real music mixed with some to a lot of AI music. I have known of artists who have not even requested to be on some playlists that ended up being bot playlists and instead the artist got punished by being banned without originally knowing why. I don’t want to stress about any of that right now. It’s too much. So, what I can do is put my music out there and ask that if you want to support or enjoy the music, any music, buy it! Mine included of course. My single is up for purchase on Bandcamp, iTunes, and all other major digital music outlets. First FOOL showcase lineup!

What is FOOL?: It started with song shares. Some of us had done @school_of_song workshops with @brianeno, @agcook404, @eccopn and @arca1000000, some did one, some did several, but we all ended up in the same room in London afterwards, talking.

Some of us have years of experience. Some have never played a show. Some stepped back from the scene out of disillusionment, others are still finding their footing. And we decided to start something, not to fix a big problem, but to add to what others are already building. We need more.

FOOL is founded on that premise. Our aim is to go for showcases where the stage is open to those in the collective, wherever we might be in the journey, not just where we’ve already arrived.

First showcase: Thursday 20th August at @avaloncafebermondsey. We will continue sharing more. Stay tuned.

A few things out and coming:

Laissez-moi Danser, my cover of the Dalida classic is out everywhere now. It’s been with me for a long time and I’m glad it’s finally in the world.

Over the next few weeks, two remixes of Esa Avaricia are coming. One by @lia_mice, who approached it like a stream of consciousness, completely her own world, which is exactly what I wanted. The other by @beuhon, containing most danceable and least danceable elements, and I mean that as the highest compliment.

These needed to happen first. Once they’re out, I move on to what’s next, new music rooted in my Sinaloa sessions in Mazatlán and LA, made possible by my Arts Council England grant for my Sinaloa Experimental Banda practice. That one has been waiting.

A tiny pause from the other releases from my project to share a cover, and the meaning of this:

Through an inexplicable stroke of luck B and I and Ezri ended up finding an apartment that cost less than living in New York or London at the top of Montmartre in Paris. When that time came to an end we were so sad but also crazy grateful that it even happened.

The flat was on the same street and had the exact same address as the house of Dalida, for those who might not know her, she was and still is an icon in French music, albeit a tragic one (warning you in case you wanna dive into her bio) and had a massive and gorgeous discography. At some point she was the biggest star in France, but hailed from Italy via Egypt.

Many people in Paris shy away from living in Montmatre scared that there is too much tourism to be able to live a calm life. From our experience nothing could be further from the truth. We very soon realized that only a handful of streets were crowded and the rest felt like a very calm but surreal dream experience, it would almost feel cliché if the place weren’t so historically dense and real. The only tell on our street was that sometimes groups of hardcore fans would come to our address, stand right outside our house (adjacent to Dalida’s) and would sing out of the top of their lungs, Paroles Paroles, Bambino, Gigi l’amoroso, amongst others, including this “Laissez moi Danser” (Let me Dance, Déjame Bailar)

I love this track so much, another favorite is Mourir sur Scène, both from her 70’s period.

I decided I would 100 percent reference the very edge of the 70’s with the electronics that carried through the 80s, and not lose the dance club ethos from the original disco track, just different production.

At one point I wanted to dress up as Dalida (I have the hair!), open the french windows with a big gesture and start singing, disorient someone a bit. I never did it. I sort of regret it.

But now I have this ❤️‍🩹

P.S. I know I don’t have to share all of this. But I wanted to.
P.P.S. Perfect french speakers: please don’t hate on my french, I promise I’ll love your spanish 😘

I forget what it took to get where I am because I am there. Sometimes that’s self-preservation. Sometimes it’s a disservice.
Just kids playing loud experimental noise at Centro Cultural de la Raza in San Diego. The first time what I was doing was welcomed and encouraged by this world we made. This was the best it had ever gotten for me at the time. But it was just a start, I still had a long way to go, and I’m still going by @nietgod
