In Chicago, we only ride the red line…

Ran with the big dawgs today and shot my shot.

Grateful for the opportunity from @chimarathon to race in such an electric city and come away with a 2:08:35 (PB) for 17th

Cramped at 40km and had to stop for 25 ish secs for the first time in my life BUT… would not have run this race any other way

Thank you to the organizers, athletes I work with, my coach @brant_stachel , my agent @riadharunning and to everyone who came out cheering today

We will be back to shave off another 1-2 minutes next time 😎

🙏 Huge thank you to @janfigueroa07 for the amazing shots! by @nobbs.not.knobs

02:59:01 — Chicago Marathon (PB)

I mean, where to start? Mostly, I feel grateful and proud of how far I’ve come

I always thought breaking 3:00 would be my lifetime achievement in the marathon, especially considering where I started. To run a 2:59 on a really, really tough day, I’m quite over the moon

Thank you to my coach (@nobbs.not.knobs) for the confidence he’s instilled in me over the last eight months. For his time, his guidance, and his all-round good character. It’s nice to have a reliable friend in this area of my life

During this block, I’ve talked a lot about joy and protecting it. About becoming a more honest runner and expressing myself. I feel like I’ve stayed true to both the man I am and where I hope to be

I wanted to keep a promise I made to myself in Valencia last year: to be my own best friend, even when things got tough. The mind can be a funky place at times, but I’m happy to say I kept that promise. Through this block and on race day. Quietly, but truly

One thing I’ve learned from running is that you never really know what’s on the other side of consistent effort compounded over a long time

The marathon asks us to rise with resilience and flow with grace. The only rule: don’t bully yourself.

We have a new bib on the wall and a new story to tell, so drop by and have a chat taken in Chicago, Illinois by @nobbs.not.knobs

Life of a Leo

It’s an unspoken right of passage for the Leo to tell you all about how they’re a Leo 🦁

Don’t mistake this expression to mean just slog around all the time. Thomas Nobbs has perfected the actual intent of this approach with his coach @brant_stachel as he has consistently improved his marathon PR over the last few years all the way down to a 2:09.

Threw myself to the wolves just to see if I’d make it out.

Happy to make it out alive and take 2nd at the @edmontonmarathon Canadian Half champs in a great field of guys.

Also a big thanks to all the organizers, support staff and elite coordinators for putting on an incredible event.

Coming off a couple day taper and some high volume weeks I was unsure how the body would respond but simply had the goal to put in a hard effort and compete in prep for the marathon.

Very glad to have checked all those boxes.

The time may not be official with the long course (informally I’ll accept what Strava says my new half PB is 🙃) but this tells us where we’re at in the build and we’re ahead of where we expected to be😎

Double workout days are a pretty normal part of marathon training for me.

Today was 20 min easy + 25 min at marathon pace + 20 min easy in the morning,

then 20 min easy + 10–12 × 1 km at 10K effort off 1 min + 20 min easy later in the day.

The challenge isn’t just completing both sessions — it’s recovering enough between them that the second one is still productive.

In the heat or on the treadmill, sweat loss can get pretty high. Sweat is mostly water, but sodium is the main electrolyte lost with it.

As dehydration sets in, your plasma volume can drop, aerobic efforts can become harder or strained, and cooling your core temperature really becomes harder, so replacing both fluids and sodium becomes more important when training sessions are rather long, hot, or especially sweaty.

That’s where Mortal Hydration fits for me:

water replaces the fluid, while the sodium helps replace some of what I’m losing and helps with fluid retention.

On a double day, it’s a simple way to stay on top of hydration between sessions rather than trying to play catch-up later.

It’s not a replacement for food, sleep, or recovery — just one useful piece of the process.

Two sessions, a lot of sweat, refuel, rehydrate, repeat. That’s what feeds my inner energy bunny 🐰

🚨New Runners🚨 “Take your time… and do your time”

When it comes to training, it’s easy to get caught up looking at the big mileage, double workout sessions and high intensity of the pros, and think replication is the quickest path to success. But take it from 2:09 marathoner @nobbs.not.knobs , the path to running your best is one forged through a lot of patience.

As one of Canada’s fastest of all time, and a coach himself, Tom takes us inside the training that got him where he is today and shares how learning how to distill the fundamentals of training into sessions appropriate to your ability level is the surest way to stay healthy and keep progressing year on year.

For a self proclaimed hammerhead, the marathon has proved the perfect distance for @nobbs.not.knobs — but it’s also the one that scares him most 🦈

From a competitive running career that began at 7, Tom’s journey through the highs and lows of the sport is much longer than his 26 years would suggest, and through it he’s seen it all and learned what it is that makes him tick.

As he gets set for the 2026 Chicago Marathon, Tom joins the show to recap his breakout 2:09:24 clocking earlier this year and talk high mileage training, learning when to push, and how he’s grown an appreciation for the sport through coaching others.

Check it out today at the link 🎙️

@nobbs.not.knobs is no stranger to hard work, but he’s also learnt the hard way that the best results come from knowing when to kill and when to chill

Canada’s 4th fastest marathoner of all time joins the show this week to talk all things training, racing, and coaching as he gears up for his first World Marathon Major this fall in Chicago.

From insane 50k long runs on the treadmill to keeping easy days easy and how he’s found a way to keep his focus on the big picture, this is one you won’t want to miss if you’ve got big goals for your fall season.

Listen to the whole conversation at the link in our bio🎙️

The next marathon build is underway and I’m proud to say I’ll be racing in the 2026 @chimarathon in the pro field this Fall!!

This build will be a fun one as we’re working harder than ever to be stronger, better, and badder come race day.

Very grateful for the amazing support the Chicago marathon provides and the competition they assemble.

Looking forward to seeing everyone there 🫶 by @nobbs.not.knobs

From 19 years of running I’ve learned that the simplest ingredients give you the greatest effect on performance and fitness.

That means that what makes a difference in training is prioritizing the simplest types of workouts, the simplest routine, focusing on sleep quality, and building your diet on single ingredient or whole foods.

With an obsession for the simple things in life and the purest ingredients, I’ve been using @cloudlinetea 🍃as part of that routine for having the highest quality hand picked tea, made just for us runners.

Being my best self each morning means having the best ingredients and I’m excited to see the long term effects on my mental state in training and on recovery from consistently having tea.
