WE ARE NOW LIVE ON @SUBVERTWORLD 🫡

To celebrate the official launch I’ve made my full discography free to all members through May 31st 🤲

Subvert is a new music platform – owned and controlled by its members, a true cooperative.

I’ve long been a supporter of alternative music platforms. While Bandcamp continues to be a great option, it is privately-owned and has been sold several times in recent years with no input from the community. There will always be a lingering threat that an AI company could acquire it, triggering a great exodus from the platform and a collapse of the site as we know it. There are better ways forward, for both artists and listeners.

Subvert takes 0% of all sales, all of your money makes it directly to the artist. Members (both artists and listeners) have a real role there, voting on any board elections, changes to bylaws, and major decisions. This is a platform built from the ground up to offer long-term stability for its community.

If you’ve been a supporter of mine over the years, THANK YOU. Shifting from one platform to another as a listener can be frustrating, and I didn’t want anyone to feel like they had to re-purchase music that they had already bought on Bandcamp. That’s why I’ve made all of my releases free to Subvert members through May 31st – an easy way to kickstart your collection there.

All of my releases will continue to be available on Bandcamp, and going forward all new releases will be provided on both Subvert and Bandcamp.

I hope you’ll join me on this journey to build a better world for artists and listeners.

MASSI is a multi genre selector constantly pushing the boundaries of dance floor curation. With her Mexican heritage influencing each and every set, she blends Latin house, Afrohouse, deep minimal techno, speed garage, jersey club,hyperpop, experimental bass and more. She is the founder of YesGoodPony, a Tucson nightlife collective focused on creating spaces for genre defying electronic music to thrive.

NULLSLEEP employs obsolete hardware and a DIY ethos to produce lo-tek hi-nrg music – mutating and intersecting jungle, footwork, acid, chiptune, and gabber. He is the founder of 8bitpeoples, a netlabel focused on music made with early computers and videogame consoles in a deliberate rejection of planned obsolescence.

THOMAS B, a shape-shifting DJ and producer based in Tucson, Arizona, creates sets that blend an eclectic mix of upper-tempo beats and bass. Since 2001, NYC’s Bit Shifter has been among those leading the charge in the underground movement known as chipstyle music, exploring high-impact, low-res music made using simplistic synthesis as a deliberate aesthetic choice.

NULLSLEEP (US)

Nullsleep employs obsolete hardware and a DIY ethos to produce lo-tek hi-nrg music – mutating and intersecting jungle, footwork, acid, chiptune, and gabber. He is the founder of 8bitpeoples, a netlabel focused on music made with early home computers and video game consoles in a deliberate rejection of intended uses and planned obsolescence.

SUNNEXO (NL)

Sunnexo is an experimental music producer based in the Netherlands, known for their glitchy 8-bit sound and heavy basslines. It appears they have a strange obsession for primitive technology.

CARPET EATER (SE)

First detected in underground circuits circa 20XX, suspected to be a rogue AGI that achieved consciousness through exposure to corrupted audio frequencies and digital decay.

KEFF (FI)

outtaSPEC! kicked off this past Saturday with the first of our monthly nights focused on sounds from the Tucson underground and beyond. We were hyped by the response.

@atlantis_moreupset fresh off a performance at @club_sulk the night before, opened with a DJ set that encapsulated everything we love about them. They always put the music above the ego and their selections maintain a balance between classic tunes and deep cuts that have the trainspotters scrambling for those track ids.

@nullsleep followed with a footwork and breakbeat focused live hardware set, dipping into other genres along the way. His setup of two modified NES consoles sequenced by an M8 tracker was a reflection of his beginnings and the pivotal role he played in the NYC chiptune scene going back more than 25 years.

Then @mikeypoblano (phx) was back on the decks, easily owning the peak of the night with a set of rhythms and grooves that kept the crowd moving. A handful of his own productions, some yet to be released, were scattered throughout and seamlessly blended in. If you’re in phx, catch him at House Party on first Saturdays at @central.records.

@deadski.os closed out with a rough and tough acid-infused jungle set that flexed both his sound design skills and production prowess. Constantly busy operating a compact modular synth rig, he laid down a selection of tracks from his recently released “Skyline” EP, along with fresh productions that push his sound even further.

Seriously BIG UP to everyone who came out and let the music move them. We had so many great conversations throughout the night that confirmed theres an appetite for this here, and we’re going to continue working hard to bring these sounds to you. There was already a tangible sense of community and friendship among those in attendance, and many of our chats ended in making plans for how people could get more involved with the events going forward. Tucson deserves this, so lets build it together.

Huge thank you to @brickboxbrewery for providing us with a home, and @chrome_effigy for shooting photos all night, capturing these moments that we fully expect to look back on someday as the start of something truly special. by @nullsleep
