The reality is, most of us are scared of change within ourselves.

We try to hold onto who we think we are and who we’ve been told we are.

We are nervous to let go of our past self. That’s why a lot of people never change. They are scared of facing the unknown. Doing things in a way they haven’t done before.

There is no change without loss. Period.

Can you face letting go of that familiar pain? That familiar way of living?

The reality is, if we want to live a full life, we will have to go through cycles of death of our past self. We have to let go, time and time again. We have to loosen the grasp we have around our own identity and who we think we are.

Anxiety is loud, chaotic, and fueled by fear, while intuition is calm, steady, and rooted in inner wisdom. ✨ The challenge? Learning to tell the difference. When anxiety speaks, it’s often driven by past experiences, self-doubt, or worry about the future. But intuition? It’s a quiet knowing, a deep sense of what feels right. 💡 The more you tune in, the easier it becomes to trust yourself. 💫 #mindsettools #mindsetcoachingforsuccess #personaldevelopmenttools #anxietyrecovery #anxietyrelief taken in London, United Kingdom by @oa_coaching

Maybe life is about showing up regardless, despite what we are experiencing, feeling or thinking. This isn’t an easy task, but then being alive isn’t always easy either. Life isn’t always easy, and why should it be? We endure many clouds in our lifetime, some blacker than others, where the blue sky is nowhere to be seen for days on end. This is what the mind can feel like.

The thing about the blue sky above, is that it is always there, despite the clouds that block it. Just as we shouldn’t trust the way we see ourselves, others or the world when life is heavy…we shouldn’t trust that the clouds mean that the blue sky has vanished.

I will always reiterate in my coaching sessions that everything I say, any observation, and any question comes from a place of love and respect for you. Compassion and empathy is at the heart of my coaching, however…sometimes we just need someone to hold up a mirror for us 🪞We obviously then explore what’s happening, and what behaviour change is needed. I’m certainly not just dropping these lines and then logging off (caaaaan you imagine) 😂 If you’ve ever been coached by me you’ll have heard me say, “I’m not above you, I’m right beside you also living life for the first time”. Our very own Somatic Breathwork and Personal Development Coach, Olivia Wynne (@oa_coaching), whose expertise is at the centre of a new Fit&Well (@wearefitandwell) feature, written by Maddy Biddulph, out today on managing morning anxiety.

Her starting point: anxiety isn't only in your head.

"From a somatic perspective, anxiety isn't just a thought—it is a whole-body state, which is why working with the body can sometimes help shift the experience," she explains. "We can't always think our way out of anxiety."

The practical tool she shares is a simple breathing pattern: inhale for four counts, hold for two, exhale for four, hold for two, extending the exhale by a count each round. As Olivia puts it, "slow breathing can increase heart rate variability, while also reducing subjective stress and anxiety."

If anxiety is persistent and affecting sleep, work or relationships, or showing up as panic attacks, Olivia is clear that's the point for professional support. "Breathwork can sit alongside that support rather than being presented as a cure."

It's a great reminder for anyone managing a team: people often carry this into the working day before it's even started. Small, practical regulation tools matter, not as a substitute for addressing workload or culture, but alongside it.

Another year around the sun…ending my birthday under the Italian sky 🌛

August 2025 - August 2026 has held quite possibly every single emotion. It has been one of the most beautiful, expansive, transformative years of my life, entwined with challenge that I’ve had to face with resilience even on days where I didn’t know where to find it.

So this is a collection and a remembrance moment of some of my favourite videos and photos from the last 365 days…really just a little album for myself. Life goes by very fast, and we tend to drift away from some of the most beautiful memories unless we remind ourselves of the moments that have made up our year around the sun.

I truly believe that I am a tapestry of everyone I have ever met, and every experience changing who I am and who we all are. Yes our lives are ours to own, but I also believe that we are all impacting each others existence more than we ever realise moment to moment. The ‘village’ makes it fundamentally more rich and beautiful. The village being the most soulful, gorgeous, ‘couldn’t live without them’ people who I am forever and eternally grateful to call my friends and family. The apples of my eyes, the yings to my yangs. I believe that they are an extension of me and the word family can also be used for people who are not connected by blood ❤️

There is nothing to shy away from in life, only ever the constant choice to embrace the experience and existence of being on earth and making this brain and body a bloody good place to live in 🌍🌱🩵🙏

Rest and recovery are not the same thing.
Rest is stopping activity and reducing cognitive load.
Recovery is what happens when the body shifts out of an alert, mobilised state and into the parasympathetic state responsible for repair and restoration.

You can be sitting still and still not be recovering.
If your breathing remains shallow, your jaw is clenched, your mind is rehearsing tomorrow’s conversations and your body still feels tense, the demand may have stopped but your nervous system has not yet registered that it is safe to switch off.

HumanOS Personal Development and Breathwork Coach Olivia Wynne (@oa_coaching) explains that this is why time off does not always leave us feeling restored.

Stress can build over months. It does not necessarily reset during one quiet evening or a week away. Rumination can also recreate the same physiological response as the original stressor, even when the external pressure is no longer present.

Signs that your nervous system may not have shifted into recovery include:

Jaw clenching
Shallow breathing
Difficulty sleeping despite feeling exhausted
Irritability over small things
Mentally rehearsing conversations that have not happened
Feeling flat rather than relaxed
Feeling “tired but wired”

Olivia recommends three practical ways to support the shift into recovery:

Create a transition ritual at the end of the working day. A walk, changing clothes or another consistent action can signal that the period of demand has ended.
Use slow, exhale-led breathing. Try breathing in for four seconds and out for six seconds.

Schedule a ten-minute worry window. Giving your thoughts a defined space can be more useful than trying to suppress them.

You can also try a physiological sigh:
Take two short inhales through the nose, followed by one long exhale through the mouth. Breathe from the belly rather than the chest and repeat for three to five minutes.

Rest stops the activity.

Recovery helps the body recognise that it can begin to repair.

What helps you make that shift at the end of the day?

The working day may finish at 5pm, but for many women, the demands on their nervous system continue long after.

During our International Women’s Day panel earlier this year, HumanOS Personal Development and Somatic Breathwork Coach Olivia Wynne (@oa_coaching) discussed the limited opportunity many women have to recover properly from workplace stress.

A demanding day at work can involve sustained pressure, constant decision-making and prolonged periods of high alert. For many women, that is followed immediately by parenting, caring responsibilities, household tasks or supporting others.

There is often very little time to pause between one set of demands and the next.

When the body does not have an opportunity to decompress, stress can remain elevated. Over time, this can affect sleep, concentration, emotional regulation, energy and performance.

Olivia’s advice is to identify small, realistic opportunities to regulate throughout the day and to experiment with different approaches.

Meditation can be effective, but it will not suit everyone. Some people with anxiety may find breathwork more accessible, others a walk, others time with friends, it needs to be indivual.

Recovery is personal. The most useful approach is the one that fits the individual, their circumstances and the time they genuinely have available.

This is why HumanOS gives employees access to personalised coaching, practical tools and on-demand support across mental, physical and emotional health, helping people find the right approach for their individual needs.

What helps you transition out of work and into the rest of your day?

Quality of your questions impacts the quality of your life. Life is also just a whole series of questions. Children ask “why” with curiosity and wonder, but adults can lose that spark of curiosity as time goes by. I will never not bang on about curiosity because I do believe that it is the essence of transformation. When was the last time someone asked you a REALLY great question? How did it impact you? 🤍💭 #mindsetshifts #questionsoflife #innerchange #therapyquotes #lifequotestagram taken in Everywhere by @oa_coaching

Growth will never be an end destination we arrive at and relax into. There is something being asked of you every single day…but do you listen to it? Do you turn down the ego gently and say “not today, there is something bigger than the voice in my head.”

Clarity and truth rarely come when we are distracted or sped up. Rushing from place to place, feeling to feeling. The body cannot hear itself over its own noise. Stillness is not the absence of life. It is the only place life gets to speak.

Fear can be louder than hope. It is more demanding, more insistent, more relentless. If fear could breathe, it would be breathing from the chest. Shallow, quickening, dysregulated. If hope could breathe, it would be softer. From the belly, slower and anchored in the body.

Have you ever noticed that the purest feelings or visions arrive when your guard is completely down? When your body is not coiled up like a spring, and your mind is not speaking incessantly to you like a radio that never switches off.

You are not who your fear decided you would be. You are who you keep choosing to become, one quiet decision at a time. #breathworkfacilitator #personaldevelopmenttools #therapyreels #mindsetshifts taken in Kalithea Springs, Rhodes by @oa_coaching
