🖤 HAPPY 60TH ANNIVERSARY TO THE BLACK PANTHER PARTY! 🖤

From Oakland to the world, SIXTY YEARS of revolutionary love, radical imagination, community care, and unapologetic Black liberation. And yes, the legacy is STILL VERY MUCH ALIVE. 🔥

On behalf of OMI-CPP, we honor the visionaries, organizers, freedom fighters, and community members who dared to imagine a world where Black people could live with dignity, safety, self-determination, and power, and then got to WORK building it.

The Black Panthers understood something we will never stop standing on: LIBERATION IS LOVE IN ACTION. From free breakfast programs and community health clinics, to political education and the fight against state violence, they showed us that taking care of our people is revolutionary work.

Sixty years later, we remember the sacrifices. We honor the ancestors. We celebrate the elders who kept the flame burning. And we pour love into the next generation carrying that torch forward.

From OMI-CPP, we send revolutionary love, deep gratitude, and the loudest salute to the Black Panther Party and everyone who continues to carry forward the struggle for Black liberation, community power, and collective freedom.

ALL POWER TO THE PEOPLE.

Today, we honor the First Peoples of this land: the original stewards of the earth, the keepers of ancestral wisdom, and the guardians of cultures, languages, and traditions that have endured since time immemorial.

We honor the Indigenous & First Nation ancestors, whose courage carried their nations through generations of struggle, and the Indigenous communities whose resilience continues to shape our present, and inspire our future.

This day is both a celebration and a call to action: to confront historical injustices, protect Indigenous lands, uplift Indigenous leadership, and ensure that truth, dignity, and self-determination are more than words.

May we move beyond recognition toward meaningful solidarity, honoring Indigenous peoples not only in what we say, but in what we defend, preserve, and build together. Every Indigenous nation deserves the dignity, respect, and freedom to determine its own future.

From all of us at OMI-CPP, may this day renew our commitment to justice, deepen our respect for Indigenous sovereignty, and inspire a future where Indigenous peoples and cultures can thrive, for generations to come.

In honor of Filipino American History Month 2026, OMI Cultural Participation Project proudly pays tribute to Demetrio “Demi” Braceros: a visionary gardener, folk artist, and community treasure, whose extraordinary work transformed Cayuga Park into distinctive expressions of public art and neighborhood pride.

At Cayuga Park, Demi Braceros did something remarkable: he transformed an everyday public space into a world of imagination, creativity, and wonder. Through his artistry and dedication, a neighborhood park became a living canvas: a place where sculpture meets nature, where ordinary materials take on extraordinary meaning, and where the human spirit finds expression in the public square.

His work stands as a powerful reminder that greatness does not always announce itself with fanfare. Sometimes, it arrives quietly, through years of devoted labor, an unconventional vision, and the determination to create something meaningful for others. Without needing a grand stage, Demi made his mark on San Francisco in a way that cannot be measured by a title, a paycheck, or a plaque.

We also proudly recognize Yoni Carnice, a Filipino author who documented Demi’s remarkable story in a book, helping preserve the legacy of a man whose creativity deserves to be remembered across generations. Through storytelling, we keep our history alive and honor the hands that have shaped our shared home.

This Filipino American History Month, we celebrate Demi as a testament to the beauty of a life devoted to community. His sculptures speak a language beyond words: of imagination, perseverance, cultural pride, and the extraordinary things one person can accomplish with heart and vision.

From all of us at OMI-CPP, Demi, we send you our deepest love, gratitude, and unwavering support. Thank you for giving Cayuga Park a soul, for leaving your creative fingerprints on the Outer Mission and Ingleside, and for reminding us that a neighborhood's greatest treasures are often the people who give of themselves, without ever asking for recognition.

Your art has taken root in our community, because sunlight entered your hands.

This Filipino American History Month 2026, OMI-CPP celebrates a story that refuses to be forgotten. A story of islands and immigration, of sacrifice and survival, of culture, courage, and community.

From the generations who crossed oceans with little more than hope, to the young Filipino Americans shaping what comes next, we celebrate them this month because they dared to dream.

We honor the farmworkers who fought for dignity. The veterans who served with courage. The elders who carried their traditions forward. The families who built community from the ground up. And the young people proudly reclaiming, remixing, and redefining what it means to be Filipino American.

Their history isn't just in textbooks: it's in their families, their food, their language, their music, their faith, and the way they show up for each other. They carry the Philippines in their hearts, while helping shape the future of America. And that's their collective power.

To every Filipino American: your story matters, your culture matters, your voice matters. This is your history, this is your moment, this is your future.

With pride, gratitude, and love,
OMI Cultural Participation Project

And here are some of our D11 Filipino neighborhood heroes and businesses, that have contributed to the success of the Lakeview/OMI, Excelsior, Mission Terrace, Crocker Amazon & Outer Mission neighborhoods in recent years.

As we get ready to wrap up Latino Heritage Month 2026, we’re taking a moment to give a BIG salute to some of the incredible community partners, leaders, and changemakers across San Francisco District 11, who continue to show up, speak up, and represent our neighborhood with pride and purpose. ❤️‍🔥

From keeping the culture alive to creating opportunities, building community, supporting families, and making sure voices are heard, y’all are really outside doing the work. And honestly? We love to see it. 🙌🏽

At OMI-CPP, we know community doesn’t just happen. It’s built by people who care, people who organize, people who lead, and people who keep showing up, even when nobody’s watching.

So to our Latinx community partners and leaders: your corazón, your hustle, your vision, and your commitment to District 11 do not go unnoticed. This is more than a month. This is culture. This is community. This is continued legacy. 🔥
