My thoughts on yesterday’s marathon. Sometimes you’re happy with what you’ve achieved and disappointed at the same time. And I think that should be shared too. Yesterday wasn’t my day, but there are also a lot of good things to take away from this race. Realising the power of friends supporting you, without Mick pushing me through, I would have pulled out. And also ignoring the pain and still finishing, the marathon is a magnificent event. I love it. Overall, a great learning experience while still running a PR, on to the next! by @oscarvermande
I used to get really nervous before speaking in front of people. These three things have helped me get better at it: 1. Visualization. I visualize myself walking on stage, speaking confidently and connecting with the audience. Instead of worrying about what people think of me, I focus on how I want to come across. 2. Practice. Public speaking is a skill you can train. I record myself, put the transcript in AI to identify what I can improve, and repeat the process. The better you know your presentation, the more freedom you have to actually enjoy and freestyle with it. 3. Positive affirmations. Remind yourself that you can do it. And more importantly, that people are there because they want to hear what you have to say, not because you have to present something. That last mindset shift has made a huge difference for me. If public speaking makes you nervous, I hope these three things help you too. ✌🏽 by @oscarvermande
1:22 on my first half marathon!! Last Sunday was one for the books. It’s a distance I had never raced before, with no real experience of how to pace it. And man, did I love it. I was nervous beforehand as I had never ran this fast for more than 10KM, so you never know what happens after you hit that mark. But after 1KM I felt completely locked in and had a near perfect race, physically and mentally, everything came together. I feel incredibly grateful to experience moments like these. It also reminded me why I’m so excited about what we’re building with @runnershighapp. You can spend months training, wear the best shoes and get your nutrition right. But when you stand at that starting line, your mental resilience can make all the difference. Being physically prepared and mentally ready to perform are two different things. And that’s exactly what we’re focusing on through sound. Getting your mind and body in the right zone. As you get older, I feel like moments of discovering something new about yourself become even more meaningful. So take that first step and keep exploring new versions of yourself. ✌🏽 by @oscarvermande
Last weekend, I was invited to speak at the @tcsamsterdammarathon Expo about something we’ve spent countless hours on: how to program music for a marathon. Sound can do measurable things to a runner. The right rhythm, the right structure, the right build at the right moment can pull you into focus, hold you in it, and change how hard the effort feels. Over the past years, we’ve been looking into research on exercise, rhythm, auditory-motor synchronization, perceived effort and how sound can influence our focus. Everything the science points to in these topics, we try to engineer into our own music for running from the ground up. From easy runs to intervals and marathon efforts, we’re exploring how sound can become a much more intelligent part of running. Grateful to @lechampionevents and the Amsterdam Marathon Expo for the invite. In two weeks I’ll be speaking at the @internationalrunningexpo about the power of sound in running activations. From creating shared, synchronized experiences to using sound as the driving force behind an activation. We can tailor sound for running activations, so it shapes the experience itself. Hope to see you there! by @oscarvermande
Er is een klein meisje opkomst en we zijn helemaal in de wolken💕💫🍼 by @oscarvermande
Great training camp weekend at Papendal with @tbd.team__. It’s been just 6 months that I joined a serious group of runners, and it’s insane to see the growth I’m making. Makes me excited for my next marathon, it feels like my first proper marathon block. And with 11 weeks left, I’m curious what’s possible if we keep up this rhythm. Growth comes from doing uncomfortable things, confidence comes from doing those things a lot. by @oscarvermande

Yesterday’s BEAT YOUR PR with @theamsterdamcoffeerun was a 👍 Love to see so many people turning up to beat their PR’s with our music and pushing themselves. It’s a cool atmosphere where there are some nerves before the run, then full focus during and then a full release of endorphins and happiness after. So many happy faces that were proud of themselves, it was a great one! Thanks to all parties involved, see you at the next one ❤️ by @oscarvermande
18.01 on my first 5K race, big PR! Looking back at a cool weekend where I participated at @bigseries.run as entrepreneur and runner. Great weekend for @runnershighapp, will do a different post + YT video about the entrepreneurial part. But wow! Such an amazing event this was, the big5 is essentially a big loop of 1.3KM with little turns, and you run the loop 4 times. Purely built for speed. The goal was to stay in control and run a PR, after blowing up mid run on the 5K and 10K in prior training attempts, I needed to learn how to control my nerves, pacing and most importantly breathing. So I started working with a breathing coach @laurilinn to get more control over my body while running at higher paces, and the results are insane. Never felt so much in control while running at a pace where everything in your mind tells you to quit, and the pacing showcased that. I stayed composed through the first 4, and went all out in the 5th, exactly how I wanted it to go. Looking back, I probably could have run a few seconds faster in the first 4K and gone sub 18, but ultimately it’s the feeling and control of the mind and breathing that counts. Running is teaching me so much about myself. I understand why people say it changes their life. It certainly changed mine. Big thanks to the @tbd.team__ for all the trainings ✨ by @oscarvermande
Short weekend in Antwerp for some intro meetings for @runnershighapp and Antwerp Fashion Festival. Main highlight was visiting good friend and my favourite designer @JanJanvanEssche, as he released a new zine, new art space and short film all together. Celebrated in typical Jan-Jan style with a concert that gets you out of your current state of mind and brings you back to the soil of what’s meaningful. Jan-Jan van Essche brings something not many can in fashion and branding, it’s deeper than clothes, it’s a universe. It’s the care for craftsmanship, respect for its maker, nature, culture and freedom that you need to understand before buying or wearing. The zine and short film which were recorded in Japan showcased this philosophy in its purest, most unrefined form. by @oscarvermande
Some May moments, celebrating the good times, running a lot and loving every bit of it, working hard in the background on @runnershighapp, just lots of love and positive vibes. by @oscarvermande
Another week of pursuing my goals and trying to be my best self in life, work and training. Our first business trip with @runnershighapp was to pitch at the Running Industry Alliance in London. Here are some nerdy thoughts/observations of the trip: As one of two companies that were allowed to pitch, it was amazing that we were first and to do that in front of all major race organisers in the UK and many other running B2B companies. Very grateful for the opportunity and it was an amazing experience. Coincidently the event fell in the same week as the London Marathon, which was perfect for us to visit pop-ups from major brands to see what they are doing to activate their brand. Interesting to see product launches, collabs and activations all happen at ones at those venues, was suprised to see Nike sharing a space with brands like Banditt and Maurten. It’s clear that brands are trying to innovate with the experience of their activations and aren’t shy to share exposure. I’m looking at these pop-ups and events through a different lense since our app, although it’s still early days, it’s interesting to envision what and how we would do it. Hopefully in the future! The UK is definitely ahead when it comes to the running and nutrition scene, hydration/electrolyte drinks are seen at every shop at every corner by various brands. Tried a bunch of them, but only Cadence succeeded in masking a salty taste. There is a reason why they are one of the fastest growing hydration drinks, and it’s not only their brand/founders/social media presence. Curious when the real electrolyte soda trend will enter the EU/Dutch markets. ✌🏽 by @oscarvermande
