Hiking Mount Bisoke in Volcanoes National Park is an unforgettable experience. Mount Bisoke is a dormant volcano located on the border between Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. The mountain stands at 3,711 meters high and is the fifth highest peak in the Virunga mountain range.

The hike to Mount Bisoke's summit takes approximately 4-6 hours, starting from the park headquarters at around 7:00 AM. The trail is steep and challenging, but the stunning views of the surrounding countryside and the mountain's unique flora and fauna make it all worth it.

As you hike, you will experience different vegetation zones, from bamboo forests to giant lobelias. You may also encounter some wildlife, such golden monkey and mountain gorillas, and bird species such as the Rwenzori turaco, black kite, and Rwenzori batis.

At the summit, you will be rewarded with breathtaking views of the crater lake and the surrounding landscape. After a well-deserved rest and a picnic lunch, you will descend the mountain, arriving back at the park headquarters by mid-afternoon.

To hike Mount Bisoke, you need to obtain a permit from the Rwanda Development Board. The price includes a professional guide to accompany you during the hike. It is also recommended to come with appropriate hiking gear and clothing, as the weather can change quickly, and the terrain can be challenging.
