"A fly got into your room
A few weeks back
But I couldn’t bring myself
To kill it.

So I thought it
You, back — a mundane
Angel checking in on me.

Sometimes I tell myself:
Maybe you’ve just gone to the shop,
But the shop is very far away.

Or you’re stuck in traffic
And the line stretches back
Beyond the time I have left."

I'd leave you something much cooler than a fly. A preying mantis shows up eating the fly. Feed her and she will grow 🪴

This is so cleverly written. It really paints a picture of the delusions we tell ourselves to cope with grief/someone leaving, without ever saying the words outright. <3

Look up Fly in my Room by Karrin Connolly, great song. Instantly reminded me of that song with this poem
