I don’t know when all of the devastation will feel real. Still reeling from all of the pain and loss this city, my nearby neighborhood, and so many people I know have experienced. Throw in the loss of one of our nation’s greatest artists, and the dark, dystopian hour at hand — it’s just too much. But even though I’m still displaced due to respiratory issues, I’m safe. My furry family is safe. My home was spared. I am so lucky compared to so many, for whom my heart is shattered. I’m also incredibly lucky to still be able to work — getting back to it with my beautiful, incredible
@philosophical_research_society family, hunkering down to look to the future with programming, and returning to hold space for people to come together for some stimulation, inspiration, and just to forget for a couple hours — it’s been incredibly supportive. It felt great to edit something today, a teaser for the US premiere of the restoration of Jean-François Laguionie‘s utterly breathtaking and mindblowing 1985 sci-fi fantasy GWEN (THE BOOK OF SAND), screening this Friday 1/24 at PRS. This film is an underseen masterpiece, being released in the U.S. for the first time by the mighty
@deafcrocodile. Promotion for it naturally got a little buried and it seems not many folks know about the screening. Hoping this helps. I’d love to see (and hug) you if you can make it out. Tickets are complimentary for anyone directly impacted by the fires. Dream on, Alex x
