Poppy Stockell

Honoured to give the keynote at the @historyvictoria Victorian Community History Awards for @publicrecordofficevictoria this week.

I was asked to share insights on capturing the history of Aussie music in both the #johnfarnham documentary and the book

I spent years immersed in John’s story—trawling through endless hours of video, audio, and articles—but had never met him. Sitting down to co-write the book with the legend himself was nothing short of profound. It also made me reflect on what an incredible few years it’s been—how lucky I’ve been to shepherd this extraordinary chapter of Australian music history.

History isn’t just about the people in the spotlight—it’s about those behind the scenes, making the calls that shift everything. Like @cherie_rom, who took a chance on You’re the Voice and played it on 2Day FM when no one else would even listen.

Congrats to all the nominees and winners. The stories we tell today shape how future generations understand who we are. So keep telling them. Keep finding the voices that need to be heard.
