Peach and I learned the hard way that she cannot be trusted with her favorite dental chews 😫 A normal Monday turned into 45 minutes of pure panic when I found Peach oozing foam from her mouth while she attempted to regurgitate the chew that was lodged deep in her throat. I tried to pull it out myself but it was impossible. She was writhing on the ground and all I could do was haul her into my car (forgot my purse, didn’t lock the door, had no collar or leash) and rushed her to the vet.
We hit every red light and at each stop my heart was racing as I checked her gums to make sure they weren’t going pale. Fortunately the chew wasn’t blocking her airways, but was fully trapped in her esophagus.
Dr. Coil and vet tech Christie saved the day. Under sedation, they pulled out the chew in one piece. I was able to pick up my baby at 5pm since they wanted to monitor her while she recovered.
Be careful with hard chews for your pups! These ones were even vet-approved but they will only work for pups who are more patient chewers than my gremlin 🥲
