At Words Matter, we believe that the words we use with and around children shape how they see themselves and the world. šŸŒŽ

In the early years, language is more than just communication - it’s a powerful tool that influences a child’s behaviour, self-esteem, and mental health. The way adults speak to children can either build them up or break them down.

With half of all mental health conditions beginning before the age of 14, many taking root in the early years - it’s vital that we choose our words with care. Educators, parents, and caregivers all play a role in creating emotionally safe spaces through language. šŸ’›

All day, every day. It's like death by a thousand cuts but people around you don't notice.

Would you say preventing a child from seeing or spending quality time with their other parent falls into this category?

And not being spoken to, for hours, days or weeks!!! My mother would often not speak to me for weeks, leaving me to apologise for endless things that I thought may have caused her to stop speaking to me. It would cause me untold distress, and I’d go to bed barely able to sleep, trying to figure out what I’d done… until I fell asleep, and try again the next day to apologise again for something else I could think of. Most of the time, I hadn’t done anything… she just had her issues which she took out on me!
