Introducing Gee’s Bend: Welcome To The Hole, a stunning documentary that offers an insider’s look at the soul of a rural Black community in Alabama—most known for its legacy of quilting, resistance, and cultural brilliance.

🎬 From Director/Producer Phillip Loken:

"Hello everyone, my name is Phillip Loken, Director and Producer of Gee's Bend: Welcome To The Hole, a documentary film giving an insider’s perspective on the nuances that have shaped a rural Black community in Alabama, most known for its rich, intergenerational legacy of quilting.

This film matters to me because Black people have historically not been at the forefront of telling our own stories, and this film is the antithesis of that statement with a Gee's Bend descendant, X aka Brian Xsavior Pettway, as the Executive Producer."

Outstanding! I’m so passionate about the quilters and quilts of Gee’s Bend. I am an African-American woman who started quilting two years ago at age 70 after seeing an exhibition of their quilts at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. I stood before each one, sobbing with emotion at the beauty of them. As a lifelong art student and lover, I have never had anything reach my soul the way they did. I left there determined to make my own quilts. I had never picked up a needle except to hem pants, but now I quilt every single waking moment that I can. I follow the Gee’s Bend community diligently and I can’t wait to see you’re finished film. I know it’s going to be wonderful.
