Black art collectors shouldn't shy away from acquiring contemporary art by artists of African descent that is politically provocative or work that is challenging or unsettling.
Artwork that is providing perspectives or commentary on what is going on politically, culturally and socially in our local communities, or at the national level are critical to our ability to have a true record of this era in history
.
Since work many wealthy White collectors and their art advisors and the galleries that serve then have designated as "identity politics" as no longer in vogue, Black collectors have to fill in the gap They must support the Black artists who are creating work that expresses our lives, experiences and obstacles as people of African descent in the United States
We also should be buying from galleries who are not afraid to exhibit it and supporting cultural institutions that are exhibiting it now
